The Sunday Session
Posted on August 5, 2012 at 02:10 AM.
Full disclosure: My intention is to secure a position here at Operation Sports primarily covering either Madden, FIFA or NCAA Football. I am a free-lance sport journalist here in Australia and this is the first step towards a career in an industry I am passionate about. Thank you for reading and your support. You can follow me on twitter: ImaGamer_OS.

The Sunday Session

The Sunday Session will be a weekly blog from yours truly. This is a bit of a free for all style blog that will primarily stay on the subject of sport though will have the license to delve in to just about any topic that spews from my brain to the keyboard.

All Hail King Michael!

Michael Phelps became the most decorated Olympic athlete in history and in my humble opinion; he also became the greatest Olympic athlete of all-time. In his final race, Phelps collected his 22nd medal and 18th gold as a member of the United States men's 4x100 meter medley team.

I am privileged to say I witnessed the start of the "Legend" when as a 15 year old boy Phelps competed at the Sydney Olympic Games. Phelps placed 5th in the men's 200 meter butterfly that Olympics as the youngest male to ever make the United States swim team in 68 years. Little did I know twelve years later that I would be sitting here blogging about an athlete that comes along once in a lifetime.

2012 NFL Hall of Fame Class

Willie Roaf , Jack Butler, Cortez Kennedy, Chris Doleman, Curtis Martin and Dermontti Dawson.

Not much more needs to be said outside the fact this is one day I look forward to each and every off-season. Each of the six men inducted are deserving and I loved every one of their acceptance speeches. Curtis Martin's speech will forever be remembered just like Shannon Sharpe's last year. It was straight from the heart. I'd bet my last dollar that there wasn't a dry eye in attendance.

Quick Hits

  • For any readers out there who support rugby league in Australia, I can only smirk at the media love affair with "Super Coach" Ricky Stuart. This is a guy who has done very little since backing in to a 2002 Grand Final win after inheriting Graham Murray's team. When a game is on the line, Stuart coached teams have one common trait: they more often than not fail. Why are NSW fans "saddened" to see Stuart leave Origin arena? He won two from his last six games as NSW coach. Ricky Stuart is a myth, a media darling who will once again be found out at NRL level when taking over as the Parramatta Eels coach in 2013.
  • I am a lifelong Chelsea FC fan and I am counting down the days until we clash with English Premier League title holders Manchester City in the FA Community Shield. It will be LIVE on Sunday morning here in Australia and signals the start of the football season.
  • Is anyone else getting truly sick and tired of the coverage of Tim Tebow? It's bordering on the ridiculous. ESPN First Take is a show I really enjoy though it's like watching a repeat of your favourite TV show. Do we really care how many passes Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow complete at training camp?
  • Ryan Tannehill "wowed" them in Miami Dolphins scrimmage. And? Tannehill I am not sold on at all. I think this will be a draft day selection that will be in a worst of top ten list in a few years’ time.
  • Floyd Mayweather Junior has received an early release from prison. Whilst I won't bore you with why I believe this is wrong, I am excited to see him out and with any luck back in training for a bout with Manny Pacquiao.
  • This weekend saw me put in my pre-orders with EB Games here in Australia. I've pre-ordered: FIFA 13 (Collector's Edition), Madden 13 and NBA 2K13. I will be playing on XBOX 360 this season.
  • I love ESPN's First Take though I cannot cop all too much that spews from the mouth of the hypocrite known as Skip Bayless. I am convinced Skip is an actor only employed to be a troll live on air. Look at his stance on LeBron James. LeBron is "still not clutch" though he will argue to blue in the face that Tony Romo is more clutch than Eli Manning? Work that out. If you're a favourite of Skip Bayless (Tim Tebow, Kevin Durant, Robert Griffin III, Tony Romo etc) than you can do no wrong.
  • Congrats to Sonny-Bill Williams and the Chiefs who won the Super Rugby title last night. A great win. It's a shame Sonny-Bill will leave rugby and head back to rugby league. I believe Sonny-Bill Williams could have went on to have a career that rivalled any to have worn the famous All Black jersey.
  • The Australian swimming team have quite rightly copped a hammering from the media here. We had plenty talking themselves up and we fell way short of the lofty expectations placed on the team. The most disappointing effort? The men's 4x100 meter relay team. They placed fourth in what was supposed to be a shootout for gold with the United States.
  • Tomorrow morning AEST will see my favourite event of any Olympics - the men's 100 meter sprint. I hope Usain Bolt can produce something special though I smell an upset and his training partner Johan Blake is the big threat. This could be special.
Until next time readers! Don't forget to follow me on Twitter.
