ILLSmak's Blog
I apologize to anyone who is offended by the way I speak.
It is 2021, almost, and while being a sim player, enjoying the game for what it is, etc, is cool, I believe you have a duty to create a My Player and play online. We could go into my reasoning for that, but let's just assume that's how I feel and there is a decent reason to believe that.
Now, when you get online, you will find THE PARK/NEIGHBORHOOD/BEACH? with a bunch of people with crazy hair, all doing the same things on court, other people off the court are basically just milling around or waiting for a game. This will probably be a huge turnoff to people who enjoy an immersive experience. Worry not! You can bypass that mode and go directly to THE REC!!
Keep in mind, strange and horrible things are going to happen to you while you journey through the Rec, BUT you must remember a couple things:
Even if you are a 60 overall, if you understand basketball, you are probably better than 50% of the people who play already. That's just absolutely real talk. Unfortunately, due to the rampant MISUNDERSTANDING of basketball that happens, more in park but also in Rec, people will clown on you for playing good basketball. KEEP PLAYING.
I don't know how 2k handles it anymore, and normally I'd not advise anyone to quit, but if you get in a game where everyone is awful, you can just quit and save your sanity, work on your dude a little more, cool off, and try again.
At this point, you might be very tempted to return to being an offline user, but DO NOT. What you don't understand is the way people who are 'sane' and perhaps 'mature' react to online gaming (which is basically like WHOAGH GET ME OUT OF THIS TOXIC GARBAGE) has created this culture of bullying, in a way. You have a bad experience, people make fun of you, you log off, never to play again. But, see, if we all just persevered and waited to find proper teammates, we could have a lot of people on there and be beating these people who think they understand the meta.
It wouldn't be lonely man in the park at 70 overall, who no one will play with. We'd all be balling together, giving real basketball a place in the park/rec and showcasing that it can also be fun to play the right way. It would probably lead to the game being more sim because there would be a larger user base, maybe some would turn into streamers.
Basketball is meant to be played with real people. At this point, we can play in modes where everyone controls their own player, as if they were a person. There is NO REASON why you should not do this. No level of toxicity should be able to push you away from the potential that this game has when played by people who actually understand real basketball.
Who knows, you might end up being really good.
