What If Sports - Hoops Dynasty (11/24/08 pt2)
Posted on November 24, 2008 at 10:08 PM.
This blog will discuss my 10th season in Hoops Dynasty and 5th at Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

The team had finally moved up to a D+ prestige. This allowed for my best recruiting class during my time at Hoops Dynasty. My job was to find 4 players to come in and contribute. I was planning on red shirting 1 player. Here is a look at my squad as it stands right now….

PG
Nicholas Shields (Jr)

SG
Jesse Lewis (Sr)
Bryan Holladay (Sr)

SF
Rodger Williams (Jr)

PF
Rodney Weddington (Jr)
Thomas Davis (Jr)

C
Jeffry Curcio (So)
Raymond Rowsey (Fr) *Last season’s redshirt

So my plan was to go out and find a backup point guard and get at least 1 SG. I preferred to not use a SF, but rather a game plan that involved playing both Lewis and Holladay, at SG and SF. During the recruiting period I was able to bring in three 2-star athletes, and my first ever 3-star player.

2-Star Players: PG Joshua Valentine, SG Robert Brumbaugh, SF Leonard Mabry
3-Star Player: PG Dennis Kitchen (Ranked #229 overall)

It was a tough decision, but I decided to redshirt Dennis Kitchen, so that I can play him as a backup to Shields, who’ll be a senior next year, and give Kitchen 3 years to start.

The season starts with 2 exhibition games and 10 non-conference games. For the exhibition, I always play my friend from high school’s team, he happens to be at D2 Chaminade, and this year the second game was against St. Joseph’s of the Atlantic 10. I pulled out both those games by double digit margins.

My season schedule looked like this:
*Non-conference*
Vs. UAB (L 67-53)
@ Wisconsin-Milwaukee (W 75-61)
Vs. California, Irvine (L 53-47)
@ Stony Brook (W 73-68)
UL-Larayette (W 62-76)
Louisiana Tech (W 61-64)
Montana State (W 52-81)
E. Tennessee State (W 41-97)
@ Birmingham-Southern (W 64-51)
@ Wisconsin, Green Bay

*Conference*
Louisiana, Monroe
@ Texas, San Antonio
@ Nicholls State
Northwestern State
@ Sam Houston State
@ Southeastern Louisiana
@ Louisiana, Monroe
Texas-Arlington
McNeese State
Nicholls State
@ Northwestern State
Southeastern Louisiana
Lamar
@ UT San Marcos
Stephen F. Austin
@ McNeese State

From here on out, I’ll be posting a blog after every game or two in order to explain what happened during the game, and how the team played. Here are my season leaders to this point so you can feel attached to the squad!!!
