Oh Madden, what pain you have wrought!

Dear Madden,

We have been together for some time now. Our relationship has seen ups and downs too numerous to count. We have spent many long hours together winning super bowls for the Detroit Lions then laughing afterward as we know that will never happen.

However as time has passed, you have lost your luster. Where once you were vibrant and full of promise, now you are but a hollow shell of yourself. It pains me more than anything to say so, but I can not give up on you. No matter how much I try, I just can't. Even after this latest torment you have brought me.

Why must you give me Madden 11? What good can come of it? We are taking steps backwards, not towards the future. When we first met on the PS2 you had so many promising features. Your game play was fun and addictive, and we had so much fun overcharging the masses for those hot dogs. Admittedly you endorsed a champion of animal cruelty at the time but I forgive you. However the very next year we had to take a break from our relationship as you just were not able to offer me what I want. I instead went to the other. You know who I speak of. It was a whole new world for me. It felt like there were pieces missing, but there was so much potential, but you couldn't have it that way. You just had to have me. So you took the other away. I was distraught, then you try to lure me back with your next cover athlete, and yet I curse you for cursing him.

However, I convinced myself that I would have to live with you, until the other came back. So I did, and for a time, things were great. We had a good couple of years, and things were starting to look up. Then we upgraded to the newer and better technology, but something was lost in the transition. The innocence of our early love. Replaced with false promises, you promised me the world, in teaspoon-sized increments it now seems, with some arsenic mixed in for good measure.

There was a rough transition through the next few years as we struggled to adapt. But we finally found promise again with your latest iteration. It was a preview of what we may have to come. As we spent all year together I simply could not wait for the next gift you were bringing for me. However, as I watched and listened I started to realize your promised riches were nothing but fool's gold. You have repackaged your heart, with the laziest of bows. Have you truly lost all will to care? Far worse though is how you have the gall to give me this coal but to even admit as such and promise a diamond one year hence. I gave up, I was sick of it! This would be the end! You are not worth the price I pay!

However, like a boomerang I came back. Only because reached a point where the price I paid was much less. So be grateful for that my dear, I am putting you on notice. I will take your coal this year, and do the best to power my train of hope with it, but should your promised diamond be anything less, then I swear this will be the end, and if I must suffer then i will drag you through the worst. Do not disappoint me.
