So I am an Eagles fan, I have been for as long as I can remember. I have been lucky enough to grow up during a time when my team is, for all intents and purposes, one of the premier teams in the NFL. They've had there ups and downs (see Mike McMahon starting for the team...ugh), but generally they have always been up by the top. Thanks in no small part to Andy Reid, the front office, and until recently Donovan McNabb. I'm a huge fan of Andy Reid and I think he is one of the best coaches in the NFL, even if he his vertical jump leaves something to be desired (see attempt to chest bump Desean Jackson...still hysterical). I still love Donovan McNabb, it was disappointing how much people ragged on him and continue to do so. We should be grateful for the generally consistent level of play from him and the team. As a lifelong Cubs fan as well, I understand when to be grateful for success.
Last season was an interesting one to watch unfold. Our first without McNabb in any capacity, I wasn't quite sure what to expect...to be frank, no one knew what to expect. And I certainly didn't expect Vick to come out of nowhere and do what he did. Except the interception against the Packers in the playoffs. That is an overriding trend of my fanhood. I am overly pessimistic about the outcome of the games. I have seen massive comebacks (see Giants game last year) and massive choke jobs (see Giants game a few years back), so the only thing I expect out of the team, or more generally the game of football, is complete random craziness. It's not the best outlook, but I plan for the worst and am pleasantly surprised if things go well. Well we have never had the best team, but we have gotten far on what we had. This brings me to my current issue.
With the recent return of football, I expected a few things, Kolb to be traded (whether it was smart or not, time would decide) and I expected the Eagles to get some cornerback to put across from Asante Samuel, because unbeknownst to most people, the Eagles actually had a scarecrow playing cornerback opposite him. So the Eagles trade Kolb for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a 2nd round pick. I figure that fills that obligation, now the team just needs to re-sign Desean Jackson and we are all set. But lo and behold, I see the breaking news banner on NFL Network with the news that they had signed Nnamdi Asomugha (and no I did not have to look up how to spell that). My first reaction was not necessarily of glee, but sheer confusion. Why did they do this? I mean it's wonderful, but still, where did this come from? With free agency going through its motions and looking at the list of pickups the Eagles have made, one emotion creeps up on me. Fear. As I said earlier, my primary reflex is to expect the worse, so as I feel the expectations build, the nightmares get worse and worse. There is so much that can and more than likely will go wrong. Vince Young calling this a dream team is not good in my book. The only Dream Teams are the ones with Michael Jordan on them.
To continue that though, I believe Jason Babin compared this team to the Miami Heat. That is the most troubling thing I have ever heard from an Eagle. My lifelong basketball team has been the Dallas Mavericks, and having just witnessed them topple the Miami Evil Empire, this is not what I want to hear. In the Eagles defense, there is no one on the team that is as...Lebron-y as Lebron, but this is still scary as heck. It's like if the Rebels just beat the Empire then Chewbacca just decided to rule over a new Empire. It's frightening.
So I hope that the Eagles do the best they can, I will be cheering like hell for them every game. I will celebrate every point scored. They are my team and that will not change. But I think I might abstain from ESPN this year (actually that might be a good idea in general) to avoid all the hype they spew. So, I do believe this has been quite a waste of your time, but thank you if you have gotten this far along, much appreciated.
(As a sidenote I hope the Eagles keep all three CB's because that would be amazing to see [note: I'm not saying it will go well or crash and burn. I'm not one for predictions])

I agree with most of what you are saying but I can not stand Andy Reid. I mean the Eagles would be dangerous If he would run the ball like a normal human being would. It just makes me mad with how much he throws the ball to a point it is predictable.

Fair enough point, I can not honestly disagree with it. But every coach has their way about things, and as long as they are successful, they can do what they will. I'll take Andy Reid's running philosophy if it means I get a great overall coach who's also a pretty darn good person as far as I can tell.

True, it does look like a wicked line up, but like I said, I am generally pessimistic about things. I felt like I was the only one who thought the Cardinals would tear us up a couple years back in the championship game. So I think they can do really well, but I'm not going to stop being nervous until I see them in action. But yeah, I hear ya, hold outs are no fun. Hope you guys get CJ locked up, and I hope we get Desean a new contract, I can not stress how important that is.

How is Nnamdi going ti fit in. Aren't you guys a zone defense team? Nnamdi is strictly a man corner.

I have no idea, to be honest. I trust the coaches to make it work. They will make it all work. Good coaches adapt their systems to the players they have and make full use of their abilities. So it may or may not work, all we can do is wait and see while they do all the hard work.

Ha ha, yeah it is quite strange isn't it? I'm sure there were reasons for each, but I can't really remember. Sorry.
