I bought NBA 2K13 in something of a panic. I wasn't trying to grab it at launch, I wasn't racing a confused grandmother, in fact the Best Buy that I dawdled in while I pondered my decision was quite lightly populated. My previous experiment with NBA 2K11 was a moderate success. There were a few entertaining franchises and experiences playing with family and friends. So, it’s been a little while since my last excursion into this realm. Rather than some canned excuse I’ll just own up to being incredibly lazy. As boredom set in at just about midnight I decided to try something I had yet to give a shot too. Normally I avoid 'My Player' modes like the plague because they are routinely terrible. Okay, so let me just preface this by saying that the last NCAA Football game that I really enjoyed was 2005 on the PS2.
Now, having said that, just a short while ago I pre-ordered NCAA Football 13 for my Xbox 360 on Amazon. So I am an Eagles fan, I have been for as long as I can remember. I have been lucky enough to grow up during a time when my team is, for all intents and purposes, one of the premier teams in the NFL. They've had there ups and downs (see Mike McMahon starting for the team...ugh), but generally they have always been up by the top. So I just finished reading the extensive (it feels good to say that) franchise blog for Madden 12 and I am legitimately excited for it. Around this time last year I was ranting to whoever happened to be around me at any given time about how incredibly stupid the Madden development team was for the "improvements" they aimed for in Madden 11, so this is an absolute upgrade year-over-year. The idea of a Create-a-Team (CaT) feature is one of my favorites in any sports game, mainly for two reasons. One, I can make a team that is a little closer to home and have a more personal touch to it, albeit as an Eagles fan I am rather obsessed about my team anyway, but it allows me to just have this sense that I am lifting my town up or whatever city I choose to base the team (Honolulu is one of my faves). A few years ago the Madden team changed its format for the rookie draft in franchise mode from randomly generated rookies to pre-made draft classes that the developers had designed to absolute perfection. Okay that last bit is not quite correct but you understand the point. Now in my poor innocent days I welcomed this, I developed some favorite players that I always tried to draft because I knew how awesome they were, and I would be genuinely filled with glee if I just drafted one guy on a whim ... Why hello all my loyal reader! (Thats not a typo ha ha) So it has been a very long while and all in all not much has changed. Admittedly I gave my copy of Madden 11 to my brother after I somehow found my old copy of ESPN NFL 2K5. It was fun playing it again after so long and I saw a lot of things that still hold up extraordinarily well and a few things that did not. Well, here we are at Madden Eve, in fact only 4 more hours till the midnight release. Now I have made my thoughts on Madden NF 11 very clear, so I understand if you take this with a grain of salt, but I am excited. Okay so this is something that has plagued me for quite a few recent Madden entries. After a couple of years of a franchise I have a few good drafts under my belt and I usually have a good linebacking corp. Now admittedly most of my franchises are simmed because I really enjoy the managing part of it. So I have my start middle linebacker, Freddie Bates for example (he is a beast, 85 overall and he can be taken in the 4th round!) and he is racking up the tackles, sacks, picks and forced fumbles. ... Okay so I'm going to make this an ongoing section. For when I want to say something about Madden but do not want to make a full article.
So right now I was thinking about the record books that are kept in Madden. This started a few years back and includes the most basic records. Such as most passing yards, passing touchdowns, rushing yards, etc. Sadly it does not include interceptions (looking at you Favre), but anyway its fun to see players climb the charts over the course of Franchise ...
