RED SOX WALK OFF WITH THE WIN
Boston, MA (AP) - The Fenway faithful went home a happy bunch last night thanks to the heroics of Brian McCann. The Red Sox and Rays were locked up at 5 in the bottom of the tenth inning when McCann stepped up to the plate and smacked a Lance Cormier pitch over the wall and into the bullpen in right-center field. The inning was set up thanks to a base-stealing attempt thwarted in the bottom of the ninth. Sox slugger Brian Happel was at the plate when Matt Kemp got thrown out trying to steal second base. So, Happel led off the 10th inning, and he wasted no time, belting a double off the monster in left - missing a walk-off homerun himself by just a few inches. Prince Fielder walked, and that allowed McCann to come to the plate and eventually hit the walk-off blast. "It's one of those moments I'll never forget," said McCann, "It doesn't matter if it's the regular season or game 7 of the World Series, winning a game for your team with a homerun like that is just amazing!"
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel was able to score from first after a double down the line by Prince Fielder
Boston and Tampa Bay will square off in the rubber match of the series tomorrow night. Adam Wainwright will take the mound for the Red Sox, while the Rays will counter with James Shields.
