ORLANDO SETS PACE EARLY, BLOWS OUT INDIANA
Indianapolis, IN - Great defense plus great rebounding plus great offense equals another easy win on the road. The formula seems simple enough. Executing it isn't always easy, unless you're the Orlando Magic. Orlando cruised to yet another blowout win, this time thumping Indiana 103-75 for its fifth straight win. The Magic continued to build on their lead every quarter, starting out with a 7 point advantage after one. That grew to 9 at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, Orlando was up 15, and then the Magic really put the game out of reach by outscoring the Pacers by 13 points in the final frame. The Magic may be in the midst of an historic stretch, blowing out every opponent they beat, so far. Orlando Forward Brian Happel is certainly impressed, "Everything just seems to be clicking right now and we need to figure out why so we can keep things going the way they are."
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel launches over a Pacers defender for the circus dunk
Speaking of Happel, it was another stellar outing. The Orlando swingman scored 36 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. He also swiped the ball away from Indiana players three times. Dwight Howard chipped in with a decent all-around game, scoring 11 points, collecting 6 boards and dishing out 5 assists. The point guard position continues to be a concern for Magic fans. Gilbert Arenas and Wayne Washington combined for just 10 points and 4 assists, with horrible shooting numbers, going just 4-20 from the field and 1-12 from long range.
Happel and the Magic blew away the competition, including this pretty windmill dunk early on
The Pacers just couldn't get much going offensively. Danny Granger led the team in scoring with just 18 points. Darren Collison ran the point well, scoring 13 points and handing out nine dimes, though he did turnover the ball 5 times. Indiana struggled shooting the ball, connecting on just 41% from the field, including 2-17 from behind the arc. Orlando also caused the Pacers to turn over the ball 16 times. "When you don't take care of the basketball like that, you don't give yourself much of a chance," said Collison. Orlando has a day off before welcoming Philadelphia to the Amway Center on Friday night.
