BOSTON FEELING GREEN AFTER ORLANDO BEAT DOWN
Orlando, FL (AP) - If you want to look up the definition of domination, just head to the dictionary and look under "Orlando Magic." See also, "Brian Happel." Orlando destroyed the Celtics, and their will, in a 105-71 laugher. This one wasn't even close early on. The Magic jumped out to a 13-0 lead and started the game on a 33-6 run. Orlando ended up shooting an amazing 73% from the field, connecting on 17-23 shots, including 4-5 from behind the arc, all en route to a 41-13 lead at the end of just one quarter. From there, Orlando just kept on cruising.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel was on fire from behind the three-point line, hitting all 5 shots.
Magic Forward Brian Happel was equally dominant. He set a number of team records on this mid-November night: most points in a regular season game (67), most field goals made in a regular season game (28), most points in a quarter in a regular season game (29), most points in a half in a regular season game (43), most field goals made in a quarter (12), and most field goals made in a half (17). It was a tough night for Tracy McGrady and Shaquille O'Neal - as Happel erased both of their names from the record books, "It's something to be proud of for sure. To be up there at the top of the list of some pretty impressive players that have been here before me is a great honor. I never really thought of myself as being in that class. Now I just hope I can stay hot and turn that into some wins for this team."
Happel would not be denied, here getting the hoop and the harm against Garnett and Pierce
Overall, Happel finished with 67 points, 15 rebounds and 5 three-pointers. The rest of his teammates didn't contribute much in the points column, as nobody else scored in double-figures. However, Dwight Howard did pull down 13 rebounds and handed out 6 assists. Gilbert Arenas also distributed the ball well, dishing out 7 dimes.
Happel and his teammates showed plenty of heart in this one, tearing up Boston all night long
Second year shooting guard Murray Christie led Boston in scoring with 18 points on 8-15 shooting. Paul Pierce added 17 points, including 3-7 from long distance. Glen "Big Baby" Davis also played relatively well, scoring 11 points and collecting 7 boards. However, he only shot 4-14 from the field.
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: Happel was taking it strong to the basket all night, connecting on a number of "And 1's"
Shooting was clearly a big key in this game. Orlando shot 51 percent from the floor overall, while the C's could only hit on 35% of their shots. The Magic were also deadly from long range, making 7-12 bombs. Again, Boston came up short, only connecting on 5-18 from behind the arc. And, Orlando won the rebounding battle, outrebounding the Celtics 53-37. The Magic improved to 7-2 with the win. The blowout will be a big help for Orlando, as its starters were able to get some rest. They now go on the road for their second back-to-back of the week, traveling to New Jersey later tonight.
