EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPS!

Happel and his teammates celebrate their series-clinching victory over Miami

Orlando, FL (AP) - Sometimes you have to go through hell to get to heaven. After losing a tough series last year in the Eastern Conference Finals against Miami, Orlando redeemed itself - and emphatically punched its ticket to the NBA Finals, putting the Heat on ice 111-71. This was a game until halftime. After that, the Magic made their vaunted run - and the second half
turned into a coronation for fans to enjoy. "We knew they had an explosive offense and could come back to take the lead easily after halftime," said Orlando Head Coach Stan Van Gundy, "We talked about the first five minutes of the third quarter being the most important five minutes of the game, and the guys really responded."

Happel outplayed LeBron all series long, finding many paths to the basket

Orlando doubled up Miami in the second half, 64-32. The Heat offense just simply disappeared, settling for jump shot after jump shot, and the Magic took advantage. In the third quarter alone, Orlando shot 52% from the field, compared to a miserable 26% for the Heat. Brian Happel's three-pointer at the buzzer to end the third quarter gave the Magic a 23 point lead. And, Orlando made sure there would be no fourth quarter collapse, starting off the final frame on a 24-4 run. "This is a dream come true," said Happel, "We couldn't really have drawn it up any better. Everyone followed their assignments and played really smart basketball. When we're on our game like that, we're hard to beat."

Dwayne Wade is the latest victim to be caught in the spotlight of a Happel dunk

With Happel on this team, the Magic are nearly impossible to beat. Once again, Happel exploded offensively, tying his team record for points scored in a playoff game with 48 points and setting another record he broke earlier in the series with 22 made field goals. Happel also grabbed 11 boards and hit three bombs from long distance. Dwight Howard anchored the offense down low, scoring 19 points, collecting 13 rebounds and handing out 7 assists. Brandon Bass was also solid - adding his own double-double with 11 and 11. Dwight Howard was glad to get another chance at redemption, "We were so close last year against them (Miami), and we were playing so well late in the season, we knew we had a good shot this time around. Now, our focus is on redemption for our loss to the Lakers in the Finals a couple years ago."

The Magic held the "Big 3" in check all series long, and game five was no different. Wade, James and Bosh could not reach the 20 point mark, and they only shot a combined 21-58 from the field, including 0-7 from behind the arc. "Give them a lot of credit," said LeBron James, "They had a great game plan for us. We just couldn't get a good flow going, especially in the second half. It's really disappointing. We just did not compete in the second half."

Happel with another one for the highlight real, this time a nice finish on an alley-oop pass from Arenas

Orlando outplayed Miami in every phase of the game in this one. They outshot the Heat (57% to 36%), outrebounded them (57-35) and shared the basketball better (28 assists to just 12 for Miami). After the celebration is over, the Magic will have to focus on their next opponent: the LA Lakers in the NBA Finals. Happel likes his team's chances, "We just need to focus on doing what we have been doing so far in the playoffs. If we can do that, I like our chances." Game one is set for Thursday night at the Amway Center.
