ORLANDO TAKES GAME ONE

Orlando, FL (AP) - It's not quite how the Magic envisioned things going, but Orlando still managed to pull away for a comfortable game one win in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against Cleveland, with a final score of 88-76. Neither team shot the ball well. The Cavaliers only hit on 37% from the field, including a dismal 3-17 behind the arc. Orlando was not any better, connecting on just 38% of its shots (5-23 from long distance). But, the Magic outscored Cleveland 33-17 in the second quarter, and it never really got any closer from there.

Happel was a dunking machine against the Cavs on his way to 38 points

Orlando Forward Brian Happel struggled a bit from the field, at least by his standards, but still managed to pour in 38 points and grab 16 rebounds for likely his best performance of his playoff career. Dwight Howard was solid for the Magic, scoring 10 points and collecting 14 rebounds. He was also a force on defense, swatting away 5 shots. Rookie Tom Harper exploded for the Cavs, scoring 14 points and cleaning the glass 11 times. Vince Carter just could not get anything going against his former team. Vinsanity was just 8-30 from the field, scoring 17 points. Carter knows his teammates are going to lean on him in this series, and he has to perform if the Cavs have any chance, "I simply have to shoot better. There's not much more to say. My teammates looked to me, and I couldn't hit the shots when we needed them."

Happel and his Orlando teammates had the Cavs on edge all game long

The guard play continues to be a worry for Orlando Head Coach Stan Van Gundy, as Gilbert Arenas and John Salmons combined for just 6-27 from the field, 2-12 from three-point range. But Van Gundy knows he's got the big ace in Happel, "We're going to need him to keep elevating his play. It doesn't matter how much we're struggling. With Brian on the floor, a big run is always just a few shots away." Orlando will look to continue defending its home court Wednesday night in game two.
