ORLANDO CLIPS HAWKS, CLINCHES TOP SPOT IN EAST
Atlanta, GA (AP) - Orlando was flying high in Atlanta, as an 84-81 victory on the road clinched a division title and the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Magic were able to hold off a late run by the Hawks to pick up the victory. Neither team shot the ball particularly well. Atlanta only shot 36% from the field for the game, including just 20% (4-20) from behind the arc. Orlando barely shot 40% from the floor, and only connected on 5-27 from long distance. Still, it was enough for the win, and star forward Brian Happel was already looking forward to the playoffs, "Home court advantage is huge. I really like what this does for our chances. With the greatest fans in the NBA behind us, I don't see how we can lose."
Happel had the Hawks feeling like they were stuck in the headlights all game long
Happel led the way on offense, scoring 39 points (including 11 in the fourth quarter). He also grabbed a game high 17 rebounds. Dwight Howard also put on quite a show, nearly turning in a triple double. The Magic center scored 12 points, picked up 15 boards and had 9 assists. John Salmons really struggled, and Orlando will need him to pick it up if the team is going to make a deep run in the playoffs. Salmons was just 2-13 from the field and a terrible 1-6 from three-point land.
Happel picked up a big block from behind to stop an easy bucket
For the Hawks, Jamal Crawford struggled for much of the game, but he picked it up in the fourth quarter, ultimately scoring 22 points. Joe Johnson chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds. The main concern for Orlando will be healing and resting up ahead of the start of the playoffs. Point Guard Gilbert Arenas suffered back spasms in the game, but said he'd try to play through it afterwards.
