ORLANDO BLOWS WASHINGTON OUT OF GYM

ORLANDO (AP) - Orlando casted a spell that apparently put a lid on the Wizards basket, as the Magic easily win at home 104-66. This game was never really in doubt. Orlando used a 29-7 run in the first quarter to grab a comfortable lead, and just cruised the rest of the way. The Magic "D" was as big a story as the offense, holding Washington to 27 points and a terrible 28% from the field in the first half. Orlando Forward Brian Happel was pleased with the all-around effort, saying "Man, it's a good feeling. It was really a team effort out there tonight, and those are the best kind of wins."

Happel's reverse dunk early on made sure his team would never look back.

Happel certainly led the way in an all-around outstanding game. He was just 2 assists short of a triple-double, scoring 35 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and dishing out 8 dimes. Center Dwight Howard struggled a bit, scoring just 9 points, but he was able to pull down 10 boards and swat away 3 shots. Gilbert Arenas, who has struggled mightly shooting from the field since being traded to Orlando, shot better in this one, going 6-14 from the field.

Happel with a wide open lane to the basket, something his teammates saw much of the night.

Orlando started off the month poorly, losing its first 2 games, against Indiana and Utah, both at home. After that, though, the Magic caught fire, winning 11 out of 12. That streak has Orlando just 1.5 games behind Chicago for the top spot in the East, and only 1 game behind Miami for the Southeast Division title. One thing is for sure for Happel. He says his team is hitting its stride at just the right time, "I'm hoping we can use this as a momentum builder to keep up this kind of play moving forward. If we're able to do that, there's no reason we can't make a whole lot of noise in the playoffs."
