MAGIC SHUT DOWN PISTONS, CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT
Orlando is playoff-bound once again. The Magic clinched a spot in the playoffs after beating Detroit 101-93. Orlando built up a 13 point lead after three quarters. The team struggled for a bit in the fourth quarter, but was still able to hold on for the 8-point victory.
Happel pulling down one of his 22 rebounds against Detroit
Brian Happel was a monster on the boards, ripping down 22 rebounds. He also scored a game high 34 points on 13-19 shooting. Dwight Howard, Brandon Bass and Gilbert Arenas all chipped in with double-doubles. Howard finished with 17 points and 16 boards, Bass scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Areans dropped 11 dimes while scoring 14 points.
Happel was flying high after this windmill dunk, and his Magic are taking off, too, into the playoffs.
For Detroit, Charlie Villanueva and Michael Beasley each scored team-high 17 points. The Pistons ended up shooting 44% from the field, but only hit 1 of 8 from behind the arc.
When he wasn't scoring, Happel was finding the open man, this time hitting Brandon Bass for a wide open jumper.
Orlando is comfortably in the playoffs, but now they still have to play for seeding. After tonight's victory, Orlando sits 3 games behind Miami for the top spot in the East, and 1.5 games behind Chicago for the second slot. Happel knows there's still plenty of work to be done, saying, "Making the playoffs isn't anything special. If anything, I think we need to step things up to ensure we're in top shape for when it's playoff time." Up next for Orlando, another home game, this one against Indiana.
