New York Jets - Weekly Update #6
(Jetsblog.com)

Recap of Chiefs at Jets:

As a lifelong Jets fan, I have to say that had to be one of the most painful games I've seen this team play in the past decade. Kellen Clemens went out there and played like he hadn't looked over the playbook once. Five interceptions? C'mon. It's games like these that make me miss our quarterback in exile. It'll be a bumpy road through the end of the season, but we'll bounce back next year.

Preview of Jets at Bills:
The Jets will march into Buffalo this weekend and try to beat the Bills on their turf. I'm nervous for this game. The Bills haven't been playing too bad-a football lately. Whereas the Jets have been encompassed by drama and change. It should be interesting to see how this game pans out.

College Football:
Instead of talking about positions and players and whatnot, I've decided that for this week, we're going to spotlight a player that has been mentioned here, and take a more in-depth look at him.

Michael Shields out of UCLA seems to be a gamble pick for most fans and experts. Last year when starting Senior Ben Olson went down for a few games, Michael Shields, a junior then, stepped in and commanded the offense with expertise. In just four games he threw for over 1000 yards, seven touchdowns, no interceptions, and a pass completion of 76%. Those are great numbers for over four games, especially when the quarterback has taken limited snaps. This year though, has taken a different route from the success we saw from him last year.

This year, he was introduced to a new offensive system. No longer did he have Coach McCullen calling his plays for him, meeting with him for workouts or anything of that nature. Now he had someone new taking the reigns. Being handed the starting job out of the gate, he's played decently this year. His play has approached nowhere near the success he had in last year's campaign, but it's been passable.

The big question right now, is whether New York Jets Coach Lou McCullen would take the risk on Shields. To some it doesn't seem to be a risk at all. Shields is familiar with the system McCullen runs, and his supporters see him as a perfect fit who could make this team run the way it should. His detractors, however, note his lack of true arm strength, and his failure to develop to change could be an issue.

Right now Michael Shields is slated to go in the second round, and possibly fall to the third. New York has noted interest in him, but the question remains, will they risk it?

Closing Thoughts:
Jetsblog.com is changing our weekly format to a bi-weekly update, rather than a weekly update. This will make for less clutter and more substance in our articles.
