New York Jets - Weekly Update #5
(Jetsblog.com)

Thoughts on Bengals vs Jets:
Honestly, as much as I dislike Chad Pennington, it's a shame to see him go out in such a manner. He's not a bad person, and doesn't deserve to have beer thrown on him. It was a classless move, and it makes our fan base look classless. Hopefully Chad ends up somewhere in the NFC, like with Carolina or something, where he can be out of our hair, and still have a good productive rest of his career. He'll never be a Jet again, that's for sure. Oh, and did you know Laverneus Coles got injured in this game? Yeah, he did.

Preview of Jets vs Raiders:

Chad Pennington is out, Kellen Clemens is in. It's going to be one interesting game out there. Personally, I think there will be some growing pains for Kellen. He's got the potential to possibly lead this team to a 10-6 record or something. He won't set the league on fire and be the toast of the town, but he won't screw things up for us. Had the Jets known this was going to happen though, they might have waited until the offseason to trade TJ?

College Games: This week's topic of debate - Runningbacks

Me
: When I think of a back that fills the bill for the New York Jets, I think Scotty Barry out of Washington State. Now, this guy won't win any foot races by any means. But he's got raw power and size, and is very durable. The Jets don't run the ball often, but when they do, it's either when the pass isn't working, or when they're on the goal line. When the pass isn't working, they run, and run, and run. And the runningbacks get tired. Scotty Barry won't get tired.

Ryan L: Joey Keller out of Illinois is one of the featured backs of this year's draft, and for all the right reasons. Keller is fast, really, really fast. And he's also got hands. Really, really good hands. Thomas Jones was traded because he didn't fit the system. Joey Keller fits the system. Joey Keller isn't an every down back. He has injury issues, so running him every down would be disastrous. He's a solid, fast, pass-catching runningback. That's what the Jets need.

Nathan H:
Looking over this list of runningbacks, no one really jumped out at me. I wasn't overwhelmed by anyone, really. This isn't a runningback draft. The power lies in quarterbacks this year, it's that simple. But I did see one back's name that made me do a double take. That's the name of LeRon James. The speed demon out of NAU looks like he could be a whole heap of trouble for opposing defenses. LeRon is the kind of player you could have split carries with a veteran, or a power back. He'd be a phenom at playing the slot. He's simply a big fish in a small pond over at NAU.

Joe B: I like character players. They tend to last longer in this league, deal at reasonable prices, and they stick by you. That's where Marqueis Snell comes in. The guy is a class act. Does he have durability and size issues? Sure. But he's fast, lightning fast. And He has character that can't be matched. He's easily the nicest, most level headed player in the past five drafts.

Closing Thoughts:
I like the direction this team is heading. We're systematically removing the pieces that don't quite fit for this team, and the Jets look like they're going to be the team to beat within the next five years. A Super Bowl may be out of reach this year, but who knows what tomorrow will hold?
