Mariners down 0-2 in ALCS, in danger of a sweep?
Posted on August 20, 2014 at 05:55 AM.
Game 1 ALCS:
Felix vs. Hiroki Kuroda

In the bottom of the first, three straight base hits by Cano/Morales/Seager brought up Justin Smoak with the bases loaded and two outs. He popped out to Brian McCann at C in foul territory. I really wish I had Logan Morrison instead if Smoak.

In the top of third, the Yankee's 9/1/2 hitters (Ichiro/Gardner/Jeter) all had base hits, which made the bases loaded for Jacoby Ellsbury. He struck out looking on a 0-2 sinker.

B3
a Leadoff 2B and a BB to Jackson/Saunders brought up Cano with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. He singled to right, and Jackson scoresheet just ahead of Ichiro's throw. Kendrys Morales grounded out and there are runners at the corners with one out for Kyle Seager. He singled to score Saunders, and it's 2-0 M's with runners on 1st/2nd. Smoak gets a HBP and it's bases loaded, one out for Mike Zunino, who grounded out to first, however, all runner move up and it's 3-0 M's. Dustin Ackley singled and played two runs to make it 5-0 M's in the bottom of the third. Taylor struck out to end the inning.

Fast forward, and after 8 innings, the Mariners lead 8-6

However, the Yankees score 2 runs off of Yoervis Medina and we go to extras, where the Yankees score in the top of the 11th on a HR by Ichiro (figures) and Robertson nails the save for a game 1 victory.

Yanks lead 1-0

Next matchup:
Iwakuma vs. Tanaka

Game two:
Yankees score on Leadoff HR by Brett Gardner in the top of the first and that just so happens to be the only run of the game. 1-0 win for the Bronx Bombers and now we're heading back to NY with a 0-2 deficit.

I won't be that upset if we lose, as next year, we won't have older guys like Corey Hart, Joe Beimel and Endy Chavez taking up roster spots and should be huge contenders from the get-go.

Game three will be next, as "Rookie of the Year" James Paxton faces off against mid-season acquisition Brandon McCarthy.
