Jaguars week 4 @ Cincinnati Bengals
Posted on July 18, 2012 at 11:18 AM.
Before the week 4 game against the Bengals, Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert made an appearance on the NFL network, asking for an interview. Blaine had this to say:
"This coming game means a lot to me. Last year, Raymond [O'Neal] got injured, and I replaced him. In the AFC championship game, I led my Jaguars to a victory over the Bengals. Then, I led us to win the Superbowl. I think that, if I start this game, another Lombardi will be in Jacksonville come February. I was the 10th overall pick a few years back. Everyone says I was a bust, I was awful. Now look at me. I won us the Superbowl, and I'm back on the bench. I don't just think, but I know that I have earned and deserve the starting job as the Jaguars quarterback."

Whether head coach Gronk will grant Gabbert's wish is to be seen. However, until then, let's take a look at the Bengals. They've strengthened their offensive line, which really led to their loss to the Jags in last year's AFC championship game. Dalton was sacked and pressured most plays. The defensive line is nailed with injuries; Carlos Dunlap is out with a fractured foot whole Couri Welch is inactive with a herniated disk. The Bengals have a decent secondary, but the Jaguars know that the Dalton- Green combo is lethal.

The Jaguars won the coin toss, but both teams went three and out on their first two drives. Neither offense could get anything going in this defensive battle. The Jags went three and out for a third time, but star free agent pickup safety Earl Thomas intercepted Dalton. The Jags went on to kick a field goal, taking a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bengals went three and out again. Then, rookie halfback Jaelin Craig juked his way into the end zone on a five yard rush. The Bengals had a huge gain on a passing play, leading to a two yard touchdown run. The Jags went three and out, which led to another huge gain through the air by the Bengals. The Bengals then got into the enzone on another short rush. At half time, the score was 14-10 Bengals.

The Bengals kicked a field goal, leading to Maurice Jones Drew fumbling, which was recovered by Cincinnati.

"I don't know what's happening to me. I fumbled last week in the Colts game, I fumbled this week. Just need to work on a carrying, that's all." Mojo said post game.

The Bengals kicked another field goal. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 20-10 Bengals. The Jags kicked a field goal of their own, now down by a touchdown. The Bengals went three and out, only to intercept an O'Neal pass, then went on to go three and out again. The Jags went 4 and out, leading to the Bengals going three and out. Maurice Jones Drew saved the day with a touchdown catch, then O'Neal ran into the endzone on the two point conversion to take a one point lead.

"Their passing game is so dangerous, I knew I needed to get that extra two points. I didn't want to go to overtime." Gronk said.

With 45 seconds, the fans were silent. Could Dalton be like Joe Montana and succeed under pressure, with so little time? Tyson Alualu was like a tornado, sacking Dalton, leaving the Bengals with 5 seconds. In the last play of the game, Superbowl hero LC Morris intercepted a hail Mary pass intended for AJ Green, ending the game. In a first half defensive battle, second half shootout, the Jags walked away with a 21-20 win.

Gronk made these comments post game:
" Our defense is getting better by the week. LC Morris continues to be a hero, winning us this game as he won the Superbowl for us. Jaelin Craig continues to amaze me.-"
When asked about Blaine Gabbert's comments pre-game:
"Blaine won the Superbowl for us. He led us to victory over these Bengals in the AFC title game. Did he get us to those games, though? No, Raymond O'Neal did. Overall, O'Neal is a more well rounded player, and has more accolades. Gabbert needs to earn opportunities. He feels he has? Great- Blaine, I'm talking to you here, as I know you're listening. You have talent. Prove to me why you should be our starter with actions, not words."
