The Colts look to have completely remodeled their team. With a rookie quarterback, Jabari Burns, [77 overall] under center, and Peyton Hillis carrying the load on running plays, the Colts seem to be a new team. They signed former Jaguar Mike Sims Walker, who was released after the Superbowl win. He was not a starter, and head coach Gronk made it evident that Mike's time with the Jags was short all season. The Colts wanted to upgrade their defense, signing [80 overall] end Jason Babin to help Dwight Freeney.
On a rainy Jacksonville day, the Colts won the coin toss, and marched down field to kick a field goal. The Jags kept pace with the Colts, kicking a field goal as well. Maurice Jones Drew broke away on a 43 yard touchdown run, running over and through defenders to really kick the game into action. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 10-3 Jags.
Both teams went three and out, and the Jaguars looked ready to score on a out route by Carl Clements. The speedy wideout caught the ball at the 10 yard line, but took a hit and fumbled. Luckily, the Jags recovered. Patrick Bell made an amazing diving catch for a touchdown on the next play. Peyton Hillis continued to disappoint Indy fans, as he fumbled and the Superbowl champs recovered and kicked a field goal. At the half, the score was 20-3 Jags.
The Colts looked ready to come back, as they intercepted Raymond O'Neal, only to kick a field goal. Vincent Jackson continued to shine in his new home with a spectacular one handed catch. Jacksonville would kick a field goal, making the socre 23-6 at the end of the third quarter.
The Jags went 3 and out, only to have Brandon Carr intercept the rookie QB! Then, Indy's misfortunes continued, as Brandon Carr recovered a fumble. The Jags didn't want to settle for a field goal, and turned the ball over on downs. The Colts would go three and out. Rookie quarterback Jarrett Cabot and rookie halfback Jaelin Craig were substituted in. Cabot fumbled as he got sacked, but the Colts had to start their drive on the three yard line. The Colts went 4 and out after marching up field into the redzone, leading to the Jags going 3 and out. The Jaguars would win, though, by a score of 23-6.
Coach Gronk made this comment after the game:
" I'm very happy with my defense's play. For the past two weeks, they haven't been the best, and now they didn't allow the Colts to score a single touchdown. Jarrett Cabot and Jaelin Craig continue to develop nicely. I really think they'll be the future of this team. Next week is our bye week, then we travel to Cincinatti to meet the Bengals, when Cedric Griffin returns.
