In week two of the 2015 regular season, the Jaguars,0-1 (who won Superbowl XLIX), traveled to Houston to meet the 0-1 Texans. On the injury report, Jaguars cornerback is still inactive for three weeks. As for the Texans, they would have to cope with the losses of their star wide receiver, Lamonte Neely [95 overall], injuries to both the offensive and defensive lines, and worst of all, the losses of starting quarterback Zac Reed and rookie cornerback Jaylin Stewart for the entire season.
[Matt Shaub regressed to an 83 overall. Arian Foster is still a beast at 96 overall. Andre Johnson, who broke many receiving records, regressed to a 90 overall. He is the only active wideout above a 70 overall on the team at the moment. The Texans have an average o-line, and JJ Watt has progressed to a nasty 95 overall. At some point, Houston signed defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who has regressed to an 85 overall.]
The dome of Reliant stadium was open as it was a hot Texas afternoon. The Jaguars won the coin toss, only to go 3 and out. Andre Johnson showed why he is a record breaker, burning every Jag on a catch and run to the endzone. However, rookie halfback Jaelin Craig got his first touchdown in his NFL career on a two yard run. The Texans again marched downfield, capping the drive with a passing touchdown. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 14-7 Texans.
Jags Star quarterback Raymond O'Neal had a 12 yard rush to escape a sack, which led to veteran star halfback Maurice Jones Drew scoring a touchdown on a one yard run. On Houston's next possession,Arian Foster scored on a toss play. However, the Texan fans were silenced as free agent pickup Torrey Smith returned the kickoff for a touchdown of his own. However, Matt Schaub continued to dominate, finding his receiver for a catch and run touchdown. Not to be outdone, O' Neal found Patrick Bell for a touchdown. The Texans went on to miss a field goal, making the score 28-28 at the half.
The Texans then went three and out, leading to O'Neal using his feet again on a seven yard rush. However, he would be intercepted, leading to Houston scoring on a rushing play. Maurice Jones Drew fumbled, and the Texans recovered. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 35-28 Texans.
The Houston Texans and Jaguars both settled for a field goal on their first drives of the fourth quarter. With 5:48 left to play, the Jags were down by a touchdown. The Texans kicked a field goal, but Raymond O'Neal scrambled again, this time for a touchdown. The Texans recovered the onside kick, resulting in a 41-37 loss for the Jags.
Head coach Gronk made this comment post game:
" There were several times that the defense needed to stop the Texans' offense, and didn't. Last week, our secondary's play wasn't satisfactory, and this week it resulted in a loss. Again, the free agents continue to impress me with how quickly they've adapted to our system, and the rookies continue to shine. Next week we come home to host the [0-2] Colts."
