This game starts off where the second game left out at. So that means once again you play as Ezio. Graphically this game is about the same as Assassin's Creed 2 for the most part that is. Some characters have gotten a face lift, some buildings look better, the NPC which there are a ton of in the streets look better. The attention to detail is pretty darn good I would say.
Sounds are amazing for those with a home theatre system or a pair of gaming surround sound headsets. You can hear the birds circling above a tower 20 blocks away. Hear people talking all around, which I will admit at 1st can disorient you.
I will not get into detail about the story line. Mainly because for those who didn't play the second game yet will have the second game spoiled for them. The story line is a continuation of the second game. During the second game you played a young Ezio. Your age during that game was like from 16 to 36.
In Brotherhood you are about late 30s early 40s. You will often hear people during the game joke about your age, referring to you as being old. Those who played the second game, I will tell the micro-managing is back once again. This time on a HUGE scale.
In the second game you only had to micro-manage your Villa compound, in Brotherhood you got to micro-manage the whole darn city of Roma. And the city of Roma is HUGEEEEEEEEE. Now I am sure some might be thinking how hard is that ? Just rob some people, get enough money and upgrade a shop, simple right ?
WRONG. Ubisoft has added another element to the whole micro-management system. The whole city of Roma is controlled by your family's rival faction the Bourgia. Each district or neighborhood, whatever you want to call it, in Roma has it's own Bourgia guard tower and it's own Bourgia guard Captain.
So throughout the game you will see a whole lot of closed abandon store fronts. You can't open up a store front until you kill the Bourgia Captain in that neighborhood AND climb the Bourgia guard tower and set it on fire. Not all captains all the same either, some are level 1 and some are level 5, so far I haven't seen one that is higher then level 5.
Nevertheless none of the captains be standing alone, there are always no less then 3 guards standing right next to them, 2 low profile guards and 1 heavily armored big axe weilding one. And a block away in all directions is at least 10 more guards of various levels who will come running to aide their captain when they hear him under attack.
Which will bring me to another point. All the guards AI have received a serious upgrade. They counter and dodge a lot more. Which means you will have to master your attack styles, because they simply this year won't just stand in front of you and let you stab them.
Grant it you can upgrade your weapons and armor, however you have to open those shops 1st. You can open blacksmith, art merchant, bank, doctor, tailor, etc. New this year is faction buildings, which can be swords men, theives and another type that escapes my mind at the moment.
Bottom line in Brotherhood, the whole goal is to start your Brotherhood of course. Which will be a long process because you come to Roma with nothing but the clothes on your back. And will have to start from grass roots level to try to build an army as powerful as the Bourgia.
Oh and another thing, running across rooftops to escape isn't easy this year. They have a lot of archers on the roofs with eagle eyes. Their aim is pretty good and can hit you with 3 arrows in a matter of 15 seconds. Also new is gunpowder, which means unlike you, the Bourgia army is equipped with guns. Getting shot with one of those while you trying to run across the roof top is not fun, it will cause you to fall off.
All in all a very fun game. The streets are interactive and engaging. When you fight the guards you will the people cheering, saying ooooooo and aweeeeeeeee. Get caught stealing and people will booo you and give you the dumbs down.
Even though you pretty much rebuilding the whole darn city of Roma, which can get expensive, everything you build however generates you income every 20 minutes. Which in turn you can use it to upgrade your arsenal and Brotherhood. It takes money to make money in Roma.
Solid 9 out of 10.
