I've been a big fan of sports video games since playing Baseball on the NES back in the 80's. Back then, I would keep stats on my own of how players would do, even though they were all the same player. I always dreamed of a sports game that would mimic real life. As games evolved over the years that got more realistic, but didn't really mimic real life. When playing a game, the players always react the way you push the buttons, so really each player is you with different attributes. About 2 years ago, I found a sports sim website. They had baseball, college football and college basketball. Great stuff. You got the players on the team, set up game plans and sat back as each player was his own player controlled only by his ratings. What made it even more fun was the fact that you get to do this against other people that have the same goal in mind. Put together the best teams and try to win a championship. Of course it cost money, even though it's much less than dropping $60 on a video game. The reward though if you do win, is game credits that could be used for future seasons and sometimes even more than that. Recently I've come across a brand new site just like this, sportssim.com. The guys that put this site together have done it with the users in mind. The cost is unreal cheap, $6.95 for each season if paid season to season, for a season that lasts a month and a half. Right now, all that they offer is college basketball, but they have plans for college baseball in the future and possibly college football as well. The first season just started last week and I am one of the lucky ones that get to be a part of this innaugural season. So far we have signed an assistant coach, and are wrapping up recruiting. Recruiting has been a challenge. Going up against other human controlled teams for that player that could make a difference has been a blood bath for me. I signed one top player out of my four available scholarships. The others show good potential, but have less than desirable ratings. We also have had to setup our out of conference schedule. You can set up games against computer controlled teams and they'll accept automatically. You have to send game invites to other users and hope they accept the challenge. The season starts in two days and I'm ready to go. My schedule is set, my recruiting wrapped up and now I have to get my starters set. I set this up and now I have to determine who gets the minutes. You set up desired minutes per player on the team. After that, you set your desired offensive sets and defensive sets. Well, I'm set up and ready to go. Looking forward to season 1 and hopefully I have the team put together to make a run and get into the National Championship tournament. Just possibly, maybe, I can win it all. The problem is, I have over 100 other guys with that same goal in mind.
