This was supposed to be an easy win. Instead, it turned out to be a game in which if Cal Poly had a high school kicker, they would've won. 3 extra points was the deciding factor between an embarrassing loss, and a slightly less embarrassing win.
There were two outcomes here:
1. Lose and have Bielema one step closer to being canned
2. Win and go to a slightly better bowl game
Quite frankly, I'd like to see Alvarez back at the reigns, but that seems like it's never going to happen. Bielema has ha a great first two years, but he couldn't perform in his third year at all. Was it a lack of talent this year? No. Was it a lack of discipline? Yes.
Anyways, Cal Poly isn't by any stretch the Citadel. They're the #3 ranked 1-AA team in the country. Last year's Michigan-App State game showed that a top ranked 1-AA team could knock off a top ranked 1-A team. So it wouldn't really of been a shock to see a top ranked 1-AA team knock off a bottom of the pack Big Ten team, would it?
