It's been a disappointing season for my Badgers, who were picked to be one of the favorites in the Big Ten and a National Title dark horse.
I's not that the team wasn't loaded with talent, that's far from the case. But incompetent coaching by Bret Bielema led to a halftime collapse against Michigan, which spurred onto another late game collapse versus Ohio State, and eventually led to a 4 game skid. The Badgers had a chance to get back on track with a win against Michigan State, which they were poised to win before Bielema and his sideline penalty led to a Michigan State winning FG.
So now, the Badgers stand at 6-5 going into a final regular season game against 1-AA Cal Poly. Assuming that everything goes as planned, the 7-5 Badgers should be looking at a respectable bowl depending on what else happens around the conference.
Ohio State and Penn State should both win against Michigan and Michigan State, respectively and Iowa should easily handle Minnesota. However, the wildcard is in the Illinois-Northwestern game.
Best case scenario? Illinois wins, allowing Wisconsin to jump ahead and Ohio State receives a BCS bid. Thus, the Badgers move up to the Champs Sports Bowl, which has the #4 switching it's former #5 bid with the Alamo Bowl. The Badgers should also then take on a weak ACC team.
Rose (Big Ten #1): Penn State
Sugar/Fiesta/Orange (At Large): Ohio State
Capital One (Big Ten #2): Iowa
Outback (Big Ten #3): Michigan State
Champs (Big Ten #4): Wisconsin
Alamo (Big Ten #5): Northwestern
Insight (Big Ten #6): Minnesota
Motor City (Big Ten #7): Illinois
Worst case scenario? Northwestern beats Illinois, preventing a Badger jump and Ohio State either loses or gets left out of the BCS. Wisconsin then slips to the Insight Bowl, taking on a likely strong Big 12 team.
