State of Emergency!
Posted on January 24, 2013 at 09:51 PM.
Ladies and gentlemen we are in a state of emergency in sorts when it comes to our current society. We are too electronically connected, have we forgotten how to verbally communicate? We pay bills online, transfer funds and even deposit checks all with a few clicks on our phones, what happened to going to a teller at a bank which I still enjoy. We are in a time where common sense is no longer common, everyone is only worried about themselves and less people care about communities. The old saying "it takes a village to raise a child" is no longer usable because so many people turn the blind eye! We vandalize and pollute our own areas by tossing trash on the floor or out the windows as we drive by.

A few of my friends laugh at me because I still get a check at work and don't have direct deposit. I still write out checks to pay my bills, I just can't bring myself to pay online. I use stamps to pay those bills and still go into a bank to manage my accounts. I enjoy going to the bakery for my coffee and warm Italian bread, a great place where a small coffee is a small coffee not a grande and cost four dollars. We need to fall back and realize what is most important in life, family, morals and respect need to come first. I am twenty years older in heart and soul some say but to that I say thank you because those were the good days!

“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”

While I agree that we are in a state of emergency and sometimes "too connected" (many of us have trouble just sitting quietly and relaxing, I disagree with the aspect of paying bills online being a part of that.

For instance, I'm with an all-online bank (no branches). I'm with them because I get 1% back on everything. I got over $300 back last year. To me, that's the definition of common sense. Why would I write a check or go in person when a brick and mortar bank will give me pennies for the year in interest when banking online gives me hundreds?

Anyway, good thoughts regardless. I do think we're reaching a danger point with the breakdown in interpersonal communications though.
