Detailed Recap:
Our top story this week doesn't come from a single game, but rather, 12 different games. This week was a bit of a strange one as 12 out of the 14 games resulted in the home team winning. Only Tampa Bay and Detroit were able to break this trend by beating the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets respectively. Truly crazy if you ask me!
The next story is almost just as crazy. It comes from the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams game where the 49ers got out to a 24 point lead in the 2nd quarter and leaving the Rams with 0 points. The Rams trailing by 24 points, a 3 possession game, started their comeback. Inch by inch, point by point, score by score, the Rams slowly caught back up to San Francisco but time was falling short. Los Angeles found a miracle and punched in their 4th Touchdown to take the lead by a single point, 28 to 27, and their defense were able to hold the 49ers and allow the Rams to pick up one of the greatest wins we have seen so far.
Our 3rd story is a record breaker. The current record for most points scored in a game was set at 48 points by the New York Jets in week 1 of our 1978 season. Fast forward to 1979, week 3, and we now have a new record. The Seattle Seahawks embarrassed the Oakland Raiders by not only beating them by 28 points, but by also scoring the most points any team has scored in a single game at 49. The Raiders defense must've called in sick this week because it is incredibly hard to allow that many points, but alas, they found a way.
The final story is the Pittsburgh Steelers and St. Louis Cardinals. When you saw this match up, you chalked it up as an automatic win for Pittsburgh without a second thought, as you would with most any team that is playing against the Cardinals, sorry Cardinals. St. Louis, however, showed everyone why this should not be the case. The Cardinals managed to fend off the Steelers at home and picked up their first win of the season with a 21 to 14 point game. This has me rethinking my predictions for future weeks, that's for sure.
In the craziest week of them all, we had the craziest game of them all with the 49ers and Rams. With it only being week 3, I think we are only seeing the beginning of the amazing and dramatic events this sport brings, so who knows what will happen in the next 13 weeks. Be sure to check back here for the next update on Tuesday!
I want to apologize for not posting this yesterday, on Sunday, as I promised. I would like to say I was too busy, but that would be a lie. I honestly got caught up in other things and forgot about this, so in return I got up early, 5am, on my holiday and simmed this week so I could get it posted as soon as possible.
