Welcome back to my 1978 NFL season remake. There are now 3 weeks into the season and it was a pretty good week overall. There were a lot of good games that were close and even a couple that weren't decided until the last few seconds of play. I'll fill you all in on the most exciting events, but first, here's the Week 3 results:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16 (2-1) Minnestoa Vikings 19 (2-1)
Kansas City Chiefs 16 (3-0) New York Giants 9 (0-3)
San Francisco 49ers 28 (1-2) Houston Oilers 31 (1-2)
Buffalo Bills 30 (3-0) Miami Dolphins 24 (1-2)
Cleveland Browns 31 (2-1) Atlanta Falcons 27 (1-2)
Washington Redskins 35 (1-2) Arizona Cardinals 24 (2-1)
Dallas Cowboys 7 (1-2) Los Angeles Rams 24 (3-0)
Oakland Raiders 6 (1-2) Green Bay Packers 31 (3-0)
Chicago Bears 23 (1-2) Detroit Lions 25 (1-2)
Pittsburgh Steelers 40 (2-1) Cincinnati Bengals 16 (0-3)
San Diego Chargers 40 (2-1) Denver Broncos 27 (0-3)
Philadelphia Eagles 33 (2-1) New Orleans Saints 31 (1-2)
Seattle Seahawks 17 (1-2) New York Jets 24 (2-1)
Baltimore Colts 18 (1-2) New England Patriots 34 (2-1)
Ok, let's get into the good stuff!
Our top story for this week comes from the Miami and Buffalo game. The Buffalo Bills were able to get a win over the Dolphins to keep their winning streak alive! It was a close game for all 4 quarters but the Miami Dolphins were not able to make a come back and let the Bills keep their #1 spot in the AFC East division.
Next is the Houston and San Francisco game. The San Francisco 49ers got of to a great start and had the lead heading into half time. Although Houston didn't take the lead, they started their 2nd half comeback with a safety in the 3rd quarter. This lead to the Houston Oilers getting back on the ball and completing a great comeback in their 31 to 28 win over San Francisco.
The first game of the week saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers go on the road for the first time this season to Minnesota to take on the Vikings. The Buccaneers had control and the lead of the game with only a handful of seconds remaining, however, the Vikings were able to put together a successful last ditch effort drive and sunk a last second field to take the lead and the win 19 to 16 at home.
The last game that needs a mention is the Washington Redskins and Arizona Cardinals game. Both of these teams came into week 3 with a streak. The Redskins had a 2 game losing streak and the Cardinals had a 2 game winning streak. Not only that, but the Arizona Cardinals were heading into week 3 with a HUGE 41 to 14 win over New England. Both of the streak were put to rest after the Washington Redskins were finally able to put together a winning game in their 35 to 24 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
Thank you for following along with the season through the first week of updates and I hope all of you continue to follow along and the rest of the season unfolds! I'll see you all here on Sunday for the Week 4 recap!
