A week ago, one of my friends emailed me a link about a social network for the sports industry called Packstrong. Although skeptical, I decided to check it out. I then found myself browsing through the content of the website and I found it very interesting. It�s basically a network made up of the sports industry. Coaches, player, owners, news reporters, agents, etc, etc� can all join.

I am a soccer player at EMU. Little did I know that there was a group created for us �private� and its purpose was to be the official communication tool between the team members, coaches, and manager. Packstrong is like a mixture of facebook and twitter because they allow you to control the privacy settings which effects who can interact with you. You can be visible by all the industry or only to your friends �it�s up to you�.
The website has features such as Shoutbox , which is basically a box where all members can post comments about whatever. It could be shout-outs to teams, players, friends, and other members. This box is visible to all members of the Pack, and whatever you post will be displayed to all the members. They have a feature called activity points, and on a quarterly basis members with the most points will get the chance to meet a role model such as NFL superstars and more.

I find Packstrong beneficial because you�re exposed to coaches and other industry participants. All athletes, coaches, and others are invited to join but the website does not serve as a 3rd party recruiters in any level such as high school, college or professional. It is a social network that allows the industry to interact. It enables High School athletes to get more exposure and learn from their role models. It also allows College athletes to connect with the industry. Finally Packstrong allows Professional athletes to promote their foundations and businesses, be active role models to the community and finally get endorsement deals from marketers in the weekly audio and video enhanced blogs. Coaches have a lot of benefits too! They can search players and use the site as the official communication tool.

Oh, and they also have contents about business, politics, health, and more. It�s so well rounded. Once you visit the site, check out the explore tab and you�ll see forums, blogs, groups, etc� The site is VERY YOUNG and new content is being uploaded daily!!!!!
