Time to let loose with more info on NHL 10 from the Community Event back in May!
Be A GM
As you’ve already heard, Dynasty Mode has been expanded to with all new features – “Be A GM” mode. If you were hoping for more depth in your dynasty, then you will definitely be pleased with these new changes for NHL 10.
Be A GM will include a GM performance tracker that measures your success (and failures) as a GM. You communicate with other GM’s via a Blackberry, and your actions can impact future dealings with other GM’s to the point that they may not want to deal with you – your actions will develop a reputation around the rest of the league. You can be hired & fired based on your actions, and the CBA rules and salary cap are in the game.
Your GM success will earn you points that you can use to improve your staff, scouting, and more.
As you already know the fantasy draft is back in the game, and NHL 10 will also include a trading block as well as draft day trading. The trade logic is much improved, so lopsided deals favoring your team will be a thing of the past.
Battle For The Cup
A new mode that puts you right into the Stanley Cup Finals…you select if you want to go best-of-3, best-of-5, best-of-7, or just one game for all the marbles! You select your opponent and can choose from any team in any league.
Playoff Mode
Making its first appearance on next-gen, the much requested playoff mode format will be in NHL 10! Choose your team and enter the 16-team journey to the Stanley Cup. You set the playoff brackets to include any team from any league, and also set the series length. You can also choose to do a tournament for the Calder Cup or the EA Cup for the European teams.
Season Mode
Something that I personally have missed for years is the inclusion of season mode. Season mode enables you to take a team through a single season and avoid the GM-type activities. And all 30 teams can be controlled by the user so you can keep the transactions real-time with what happens in the NHL. All of the same playoff length & options are available for season mode as well.
Another great addition to these modes is storylines. Storylines will keep track of events (i.e. injuries) that happen during the course of the season or playoff series and refer back to that event. For example, let’s say you are playing the Penguins on the road and knock Crosby out of the game --- later on in the season (or playoffs if you are in that mode), Thorne and Clement will refer back to the injury and the crowd will let you hear it as well. It’s all dependent on what happens while you play, so it has an organic real-time flow to it and it really adds a lot to the presentation in the game.

NHL 10 is right around the corner, but there is still info to come. There will be information coming soon on the EASHL and more.
I will try to answer your questions on the above info as best I can, but please be advised that I didn’t spend a whole lot of time in these modes. We only had about 5 hours of hands-on with game and I tried to check out the gameplay as much as I could. I will answer what I can, otherwise you can always stick your question in Chase’s “Ask EA” thread.

Nice! Thanks for posting this. Sounds like the game is going to be a lot more user-friendly as far as giving people different ways to enjoy it. Nice job out of the NHL 10 crew. I'm especially excited about single-season mode.

I am excited for single-season mode as well. Finally having it in there is great, along with being able to control all 30 teams so rosters can be kept current. Yet another example of EA listening to the community!

We were told the aspects of the CBA would be included. You may want to confirm this question by asking it in Chase's thread.
