I continue to find myself impressed with the great improvements to this years Madden gameplay. Unfortunately the franchise mode I’ve just found to be lacking any sort of excitement to keep me going. Once I reached the end of my season I’ve been looking for other ways to enjoy the gameplay. Unfortunately online hasn’t been an option for me lately, which led me to discovering the Madden Moments.
I think that the Madden Moments have actually been a quite underrated gameplay mode in Madden this year. Obviously I don’t expect them to be a big draw, but I really wonder how many people have messed with them at all. For those of you who haven’t tried them here are three reasons why you should give them a try.
One: They’re quick. As video games have become more detailed they’ve also become much more time consuming to get through a game. On NES way back in the day you could play a game in 20 minutes, then slowly games started to take longer creeping to 30 minutes, and from Xbox days on it seems to be 40 minutes to an hour to complete a game. So there’s one advantage of the Madden moments, you can squeeze a few scenarios in, in half the time it would take you to play a regular game. Or if you’re looking to kill some time they’re perfect for 5-10 minutes of entertainment.
Two: It gives you an opportunity to try out multiple teams and get a feel for them, without having to play an entire game. Sure it’s pretty late in the year, so if you’ve wanted to play with multiple teams you probably have, but if you’re like me you generally stick to one team and feel somewhat disloyal abandoning them for someone else. The Madden moments can be a guilt free way to sneak a peak at other teams, maybe even a way to find some unknown players that could fill a good role on your own team.
Three: It’s a new challenge. At this point you’ve already played out your season or franchise, you’ve conquered your buddies online, now see if you can manage to pull out a couple miracle wins against the AI and recreate history.
Finally I have one thing I’d like to see EA do to improve Madden Moments for the Madden 10 installment. The NFL Network replays the weeks greatest games, so why not have Madden 10, let you replay them. Weekly updates to the Madden Moments for different scenarios that played out that week could be a fun addition to the game. I’m not sure if it would be a problem with their agreement with the NFL, or with the players union, but it could be a great option to have you play things out that happened the week before. This could be especially good if they included injuries, beat take over the Pats with Matt Cassell the play after Brady goes down, or the Chargers beating the colts in the playoffs without LT in the second half. I know it’s a long shot, but it could be fun to see.
If you have any other ideas on how to freshen up Madden & keep me playing let me know.
