So I've been playing the Blur beta the last few days, and I can easily say this a must buy if you like racing games. It's an online only beta, so got to try that out, which really impressed me.

To start off, I've always liked Bizarre Creations work, ever since the Dreamcast days and Metropolis Street Racer hit the scene. Following up with Project Gotham Racing, and now Blur. It maintains what made the Bizarre Creations games work so well, and that's it's style.

Blur is basically a Mario Kart type racing game. There are real world locales as the tracks, I wouldn't expect to see the Daytona 500 here, but there's a track in Los Angeles, one in Tokyo, etc. Adding to that, the game has all real cars. Nothing is fake here, if you have an Audi, you can take it out on the track for damage.

With the Mario Kart type feel, there are power-ups scattered through out the track. They have shields, lightning strikes, beams you can fire out of the car, etc. All has that Mario Kart type feel to it. As you race, you gain fans (think Kudos from PGR and MSR), and this ranks you up. Now this is where it has the Modern Warfare feel to it, as you rank up, you unlock cars, parts, etc. You also have load out's, where some will give you a better shield to start off or a random power up to start the race with. These obviously can give you an advantage.

Had several 20 car races and it's extremely smooth. No lag, and impressive for having 20 cars on the track all battling for position, and with power ups flying all over the place. Quite chaotic. Also, this one of those racers where you DO want to rub paint, instead of avoiding it in the turns. The object is to win..at all costs.

If you have a 360 and still need to get in the Beta, I still have some codes left, let me know in a reply if you need one. If you have a PS3, just know, this is going to be a racer you are going to want to look at come May 25th. Give it a shot, if offline is nearly as good as online is, then this will be a nice sleeper hit for the spring/early summer.
