The Rock...and his Injury
Posted on April 9, 2013 at 08:32 AM.

Giving a fair warning so you can close down this blog, future storyline and behind the scene stuff will be mentioned during this story. So if you don't want to know, close it now.

Ready? Okay, good.

Let me preface this by saying I don't read dirt sheets. I actually hate them, I like to be surprised. I don't get the whole spoil something we love idea that wrestling fans seem to have over other media types. But this story filled up my Twitter so fast, that I was practically forced into seeing the news.

The news broke on the dirt sheets yesterday afternoon that The Rock just up and left early Monday morning without telling anyone in the WWE. I can admit that I didn't believe this story, just took it as a story someone started a rumor and let it spread like wildfire. I debated that a rumor isn't fact, we don't truly know what happened or the why behind it. Then the 2nd update happened, The Rock reported it himself that he is injured. I can also admit, I took this story as fact.

So the run down is that The Rock was scheduled to start Raw and be confronted by Brock Lesnar which would set up either a match at a later pay-per-view or next year's WrestleMania. Rock balked at the finish from WrestleMania 29 and the proposed new angle, so he took his ball and went home. Or...he's injured. This supposedly let to backstage panic and a complete rewrite of Monday Night Raw last night.

Watching Raw (and it's fantastic crowd, one of the best ever), it didn't feel like a show thrown together hours before hand, it actually felt like a well paced, well drawn up show. Leading me to believe the most of the storylines fell into place as they should, The Rock was supposed to be there either way, and I'm sure that threw a monkey wrench in some plans, but it is what it is. Then I listened to comments by John Cena a little closer during the opening segment. He made some snide, off the cuff comments when the fans reacted to The Rock not being there. Suddenly, it clicked. The original dirt sheets did have this correct, Rocky simply took his ball and went home. Now, I enjoy The Rock and what he brings to the table, but if he's going to be champion or involved in big angles, I want him on the show each and every week. If he really did leave because he's upset with an angle, then I have lost all respect for him. It's a business; do I really believe anyone could ever beat Mark Henry in a fight? No. But for business sake, he has to lose.

Looking back on that entire Raw from last night, the whole thing felt like a middle finger gesture to The Rock so maybe it was a quick rewrite. The champion was actually on the show and wrestling for a change. There were 2 title changes and The Rock being mentioned as "injured" knowing the crowd would boo.

Either way, I wish I didn't know any of it and could just live in happy land assuming Rocky was really hurt. But that just doesn't seem to happen when you deal with social media and wrestling.

I don't know, I'm having a hard time buying that Rock just up and left, but I thought the same thing about Austin and he did it ... twice.

it is tough to decide what to believe. i could see it either way i guess but bottom line raw was awesome last night and felt more alive than wrestlemania. i think the whole 80000 outdoor stadium venue that vince wants is wrong. 20000 insane fans inside msg would have felt like 100000 as the crownd showed last night.

dirt sheets or not i know we will see the rock again

I agree. We will see The Rock again. They didn't bury him anyway, in fact they said he's still the number one contender. So my guess is when he "recovers", he will be back in the title picture.

Guess he is going to film Hercules first and then get the injury fixed. So, likely will not see him until SummerSlam or Survivor Series. That's still plenty of time to build towards a Lesnar match, if they still choose to go that route.
