After seeing their starting running back Trayion Durham break his ribs in week three, the injuries began to pile up for the Flashes, with starting quarterback Spencer Keith and wide receiver Eric Adeyemi going out for six and 10 weeks respectively.
Confounding the problems further, second string running back Anthony Meray broke his fibula in week three and is out for the season. This left Kent State's offense seemingly decimated with three starters out and the team down to it's third string running back and second string quarterback. In stepped true freshman running back Julian Durden, who has shown and incredible skill-set and ability for the run-heavy Flashes offense, averaging just over 5 yards a carry and scoring 5 touchdowns with almost 700 yards rushed in just four games, including a 226 yard performance against Army in which the Philadelphia native ran the ball 41 times.
The Kent State football team faced early hardships after starting the season 2-1, going on a two game losing streak in which it was outscored 65-21, included a 30-0 drubbing against ECU.
Still, spirits remain optimistic in Kent after the Flashes gutted out a defensive 19-16 win against the option attack of Army.
Starting Quarterback Spencer Keith is back from injury and will start in week eight against Western Michigan (4-3) and team anchor, sophomore running back Trayion Durham will join the team in week 10 against the #7 team in the nation, undefeated Notre Dame.
Kent State has work to do in the Mac East, sitting in 4th with a 1-2 conference mark and trailing the Ohio Bobcats (6-1, 3-0) by two games with five conference games remaining.
At 3-3 however, Kent State is putting itself in great position to potentially go to its first bowl game in over 40 years.
In some promising news on the early season recruiting trail, Kent State has received commitments from three star running back, Simon Ward, who has scouts in awe of his all around ability and deadly juke. Junior college center Jonathon Jones, another Ohio prospect and Kent State commitment, has also impressed Kent State scouts considerably, jumping up the boards immensely in recent weeks after being projected as just a one star talent.
Some other notable news from the first six games of 2012:
Julian Durden is currently 10th in the nation with 690 yards rushing. Middle Linebacker Luke Batton, has taken it one step further, leading the nation outright with 31 solo tackles. Kent State has work to do on special teams, with place kicker Frank Cortez's connecting on just 5 of 8 attempts with a long of just 30 yards.

A Freshman Emerges
"My heart can barely take it no more," said Michael Scott, mimicking a southern drawl. Quite peculiar, yet a pretty honest statement after the defensive battle that took place this afternoon.
The UNLV Rebels outlasted the Utah Utes and walked away with 2OT victory, 23-17.
The unsung hero of the afternoon had to be Mike Clausen, the redshirt freshman QB who came in relief of the injured Omar Clayton late in the 2nd half. Clausen would prove to be the catalyst, connecting on 9 of 11 pass attempts and throwing the first touchdown in OT. A 24 Yd strike that kept UNLV's hopes alive. Omar Clayton would return in the 2nd OT and seal the deal with a 1 Yd dump pass to win.
Michael Scott added after the game, "In all my years as a Dunder Mifflin regional manager, I have never had to think so hard in my life... I just kept thinking about cooking some bacon on my George Foreman grill after the game, and that pushed me through."
The UNLV Rebels move to 1-1 on the season.

The Tide jumped out to an quick 17-0 lead before an interception gave the Rebels the ball deep in Bama territory, where WR Phillip Payne ran it in of the WR Reverse with just under 30 seconds left in the half to make it 17-7.
The misfortune did not stop there for Greg McElroy, who had a forgetful day with 3 interceptions, despite throwing for over 290 yards and 3 TD. Rather than take the lead into halftime, McElroy telegraphed another pass to Geoffery Howard who returned the interception 68 Yds for a TD as time expired on the half; the game a true test at 17-14 Alabama.
The second half was much kinder to the Alabama Crimson Tide, who went back to 1st quarter form while taking a 24-14 lead into the 4th quarter after a Marquis Maze 24 Yd TD pass from McElroy.
The Rebels did not quit there though, moving the ball down the field and capping off the 10 play 75 yard drive with a 5 Yd TD pass to Casey Flair to cut the lead to 24-21. On the ensuing kickoff, Marquis Maze would give Bama the breathing room they needed, returning the kickoff 88 Yds for the TD and more importantly a 31-21 lead. After another stop and magnificent score on a 54 Yd TD run by Mark Ingram, the Rebels simply ran out of time and energy, falling to the Crimson Tide, 45-28.
Coach Michael Scott had this to say after the game, "WOWEE! That was so fun. It's time to go get some Scotch and Splenda: Tastes like Splenda, gets you drunk like scotch!"

This is going to be something interesting, everyone. I am doing a cpu vs cpu dynasty on NCAA 09 (sold 10) using sliders that I recently dug up.
The catch is that I will be employing the fictional Michael Scott from NBC's The Office to keep things fresh -- and since I'm a huge fan.
As of now, I write this for myself, but if you enjoy what you see so far, leave a comment.

Las Vegas Dispatch: UNLV Finds New Coach!
Coach Michael Scott can't wait to get started.
Scott, who was hired as the school's new head coach Tuesday, is already rearing to go. "I am excited for the opportunity. I hope to be on top at the end of the day... BWAAA, That's what she said!"
"But no, seriously, I enjoy working with the kids -- I love kids... and these guys are just like bigger, older... kids," said Scott, who will be taking on his first coaching job. "I have mostly spent the last fourteen years at a paper supply firm, but in my mind, I have been a coach all my life."
"I really enjoyed college, even though I never was actually AT college, but I look forward to a successful year... and Toby can suck it."
