New England Patriots Franchise - 1st Season - Week 2 - Pats @ Jets
Posted on November 20, 2010 at 07:21 PM.
The Patriots traveled to New York to take on the Jets. This was a vital contest in the AFC East but the Jets had been handled a bad blow. Sanchez is out with Bruised Ribs meaning 17 Season Vet Brunell has to step in. With the way the Patriots Secondary performed in Week 1 vs Palmer, Ochocinco and TO they were licking their lips at the prospect of the Jets Passing game. There was also a small matter to address in LT one of the greatest RBs of all time still had the speed to burn Defences.
The Jets took an early lead to the surprise of the stadium, Brunell connecting with Braylon Edwards for a 28 Yard Score. The Patriots got into a rhythm though and found Wes Welker in the endzone from 15 yards despite him not having a catch last week vs the Bengals. Following a length possession by the Jets after that ended up leading to nothing after a Missed Nick Folk Field Goal, Brady and company took advantage driving the field to score a touchdown to Brandon Tate from 2 Yards out.
The Jets then got the ball back with 1:45 to play in the half, and drove down the field to get Nick Folk to split the uprights with a 22 Yard Field Goal.
Halftime: Patriots 14 - Jets 10
The 3rd Quarter ended up being a game changer. Starting with the Patriots receiving possession off the kickoff A.Hernandez with some great Yards after the catch had a 52 Yard Pass for a touchdown from Tom Brady. Still though, the running game for the Patriots was really ineffective and forced New England to be 1 dimensional on 2nd and 3rd down.
After Brunell threw a Interception to Leigh Bodden, the Patriots took full advantage driving the field again through a few runs and passes which ended up leading to a 2 Yard Run from C.Spiller for Touchdown. C.Spiller had a rough game, fumbling twice in the first half. He redeemed himself though with a pure power run.
In the 4th Quarter the Pats added 2 Field Goals after Brunell threw another Interception to Leigh Bodden which made it his second of the day. The game finished with a 34-10 win for the Pats. A vital win for the Pats that gets them to 2-0, the question that everybody was asking after the game was that if Sanchez was fit, how would the game had been different? Brunell missed a lot of great opportunities. The Patriots passing game was once again unstoppable throughout.
Next up for the Patriots now is the 2-0 Bills who have made an impressive start to the season. Logan Mankins returns to Foxboro looking to help his team take a lead in the AFC East. We will find out next week!
