If NBA Live Fails, Everyone Suffers.
Posted on August 6, 2012 at 12:29 AM.
Let me start by saying even though I have been playing the NBA 2k Series since 2k7, I am by no means loyal to a brand (I started with Live, but after Live 06, I felt NBA 2k was the better franchise). I am loyal to whomever brings me the most realistic basketball simulation on the market. Right now (unfortunately painfully obvious...) it's 2k.

With that being said. I am rooting hard for EA to fix their game and make it playable. Not only make it playable... but good enough to compete with NBA 2K. Why? For the exact same reason people want to see 2K get back in the NFL game. I also would like to see 2k Get back in the market for the NFL for the competition, whether i buy the game is based solely on if they game is better in my opinion than Madden (but this isn't about which game is better...that argument is for another time.)

Competition between developers is the only chance for us as gamers to get these developers to deliver on their promises. Madden has no Competition, so EA will hold back, and hold back, and hold back, every year because they have no one pushing them, or forcing them to release the next best thing.

If you haven't noticed it yet. So has 2k... (Now before I get pelted let me defend my self!). In 2k11, we Had My Crews, we Had The Sprite Slam dunk events, and some other cool features. EA Doesn't launch NBA Elite....so What happens? In 2k12 we saw some improvements that where commendable from 2k with no competition... I will give them credit where credit is due... MyPlayer by far took a huge leap forward. They laid the ground work for a fully functional Online Association (still needs work....but it's progress). But as many of you know. That Paid DLC that let you play with the legends in a cell shaded environment was basically a lesser version of my crews, and the Sprite Blacktop events.... 2k made us pay for something that was free in a previous iteration of the game (and better in many instances in 2k11). In my opinion... this was 2K capitalizing on the lack of competition from EA. This made many people including myself disappointed by 2k for this.

The only way we as gamers can get the best out of these developers if there is competition between them. Without that, we are at their mercy to what they would like to include and what they choose to withhold from us. So I ask you all, Even if You hate 2k, or If you hate EA. We should all stand together on this front in saying that we Need the competition in sports gaming, In the NBA, MLB, NFL, FIFA, and beyond. Competition will inevitably make the games we love to play better.
