Retro Sports League, anyone up for it?
Posted on March 19, 2012 at 02:36 AM.
Hello fellow OSers. I wanted to get some feedback on a Retro Sports League I am planning on starting up.

First off, I am a long time OSer, but I haven't been around much over the last few years only because my love for newer sports games has just kind of died. I think it's the the time factor with kids, wife, blah blah . Anyway, my love for classic and retro games has never gone away so me and some buddies started s game show / web series on youtube called Retro Rumble. You can check it out if you want, but we don't do sports titles so I won't link it here.

Anyway, I thought their might be some old farts like myself around here that might appreciate a league where you can compete in games like Hardball III, Baseball Stars 2, NHL 96, Joe Montana Football, etc. This is in fact what I am planning with the Sports version of our retro league. We have software in place to make this happen, and it's been simplified so it's not a big mess to get setup. We hope to make it as painless as possible .

My main question is, is there an interest for something like this in the OS crowd, or should I go more towards the retro crowd?

Secondly, what would be the one game from each sport that you want to do a retro league on. Can be any console or arcade.

Curious, would you rather play the NES version via emulation or just use the Xbox 360 version?

Cool. I gonna get this going soon regardless of the number we have right now. I'm hoping it will grow. I'm thinking Super Tecmo Bowl and RBI Baseball might be a good start.

Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball for SNES. I think you'd get a lot of people interested in this.

Oh yeah, that's a good baseball choice. Is that the first one or the second?

I'd be interested in Tecmo Super Bowl (NES or 360, whichever is easier) for football, or NHL '94 (SNES) for hockey. I'm dreadful at retro baseball games, and don't play any basketball games.

BTW go to tecmobowl.org if any of you are interested in playing Tecmo Super Bowl with 32 teams and 2012 rosters.

I just downloaded it and I am having a blast playing it. I also have a roster editor and have been updating the free agent moves.

Great, thanks for all the feedback. I'm looking forward to getting this started. Hopefully in the next week as I get the new website wrapped up.

And for me, part of the fun of playing retro games is having the players from that era too. So we won't be using any kind of updated versions of the games, they will be as they were then.

Oh, and if you are interested in participating, add me as a friend so I can update you when it's going to start. I'll also keep posting up blogs.
