I write a weekly article in my school's (EWU) newspaper for the Seahawks. I'm going to start posting them in blogs too, hope you guys enjoy.
Pro-bowl cornerback Marcus Trufant returned to action for the Seahawks (2-5) Sunday afternoon against the Dallas Cowboys (5-2) losing 38-17.
Trufant was a bit rusty making his season debut, being called for three defensive pass interference calls. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, Trufant’s miscues were not their only problem.
Tony Romo, Cowboys’ quarterback, went 21 for 36 with 256 yards and three touchdowns. One touchdown went to Dallas’ newest starting receiver, Miles Austin. Austin has been very impressive garnering 482 yards and five touchdowns in his first three NFL starts, with 61 yards and one of those touchdowns coming against Seattle.
Matt Hasselbeck played mistake free going 22 for 39 with 249 yards and two touchdowns. However, both Justin Forsett and Nate Burleson lost fumbles.
"We put two weeks into this game plan. I felt like we were ready," we just didn't get it done. .... I feel physically drained, emotionally drained. I'm frustrated. We're all searching for answers," said Hasselbeck.
The Seahawks started off early driving down the field and getting a 43-yard field goal from Olindo Mare. Seattle’s next drive was going well, until Forsett fumbled the ball which led to a quick Cowboys’ score. Seattle managed to get the score 10-14, but it wasn’t enough.
The loss has Seattle wondering what is going wrong, with losing four of their five losses by double-digits.
"There has to be a reason for us to lose the games we're losing by the margin we're losing by," receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh said. "It's unbelievable."
Hasselbeck believes that playing from behind the majority of the time has had its affect on the Hawks. "I know what playing from behind does," Hasselbeck said. "It puts you in obvious passing situations."
One thing is for sure, Seattle better figure out what the problem is, because right now sitting at (2-5) is right where they were last year - when they finished (4-12).
"All of us have to be accountable, starting with me, everybody that sits on that plan ... has to accept accountability," coach Jim Mora said.
Next week should be a good game for the Seahawks to get rolling again, facing the lowly Detroit Lions (1-6) at home, who lost against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
