Dog Days of Summer
Posted on June 16, 2009 at 11:08 AM.
Hello old friend! It has been a while since I last wrote. I've been busy with my summer part-time job at the local drag strip. This is my 10th season and I'm fortunate enough to be able to work next to my Dad, who has been there 22. Good times and family fun! But that's neither here nor there. I have been on a 3-game rotation lately, so MLB has been seeing a bit of off time. I brought her back out this weekend though and hit it hard with a vengance! I'm still with the Padres, but my first MLB season has been a HUGE success in comparison to previous MLB: The Show first MLB seasons. Granted, I have done some slider adjusting and its probably a bit easier than previous years. I have been knocking them back a bit lately though and noticing that I'm still able to hit the ball well. I'm batting over .400, which is awesome! I'm also leading the league in home-runs and hits! They've kept me in the 3 slot and its paying off. 38 dingers, right now 102 rbi's and we just got into August. However, the Padres are in DEAD LAST place in the NL West. Is this surprising? Not in the least! I have to say that the only good things about the Padres are Tony Gwynn and the fact that they traded Ozzie to the Cardinals. But take that into fact again that I live in Southeast Missouri and bleed Cardinal red. Maybe in the Show, as I'm sure I have said before, I can get shipped back to the midwest. But it was cool in a "way to go trade me and lose out on this" moment where I had a walk-off homerun in the first game of the Cardinals set, went 3-4 with a dinger in the 2nd game and in the 3rd game I had a grand slam. So who knows. If the game could send some signs, I may have done a pretty good job haha. Take that LaRussa! Too bad that our pitching staff is getting killed. Even Jake Peavey is getting hit hard. Our biggest highlight is that we are 3rd in the league in homeruns allowed. But in the mid 20's with everything else. Not faring too well. It seems like the team as a whole is hitting well, our offensive categories are top 15 for the biggest part. Granted I'm sure that my .415 average is helping boost alot of that. But it looks like I'll be missing the post-season, which, even though I'm doing well, the team not bugs me. But seeing as it is a game, what can I do? I'll keep trucking along and maybe a trade request will go through. Or after my contract is up I can sign as a free-agent to someone. And who knows, I may be injury ridden as a sophomore and never bust out of it. Or just be a one-hit wonder altogether. Kevin Maas anyone? But we'll see. My goal is definitely a world series. If not a win, at least an appearance. I think that's any good player's goal. Hell, any player. The single accolades are nice, but a team accomplishment goes a long ways. We'll see. Its not like my career is already over. I'm 1 year in! Maybe I can ride it a while and hold out for a monster contract from the Yankees and get on that "we'll buy the best" payroll. Heh-heh. That would go against everything that I am, but I'm not the guy in the Show, he'd probably go for it. Ha ha! Well, that's about it for now. I was just wanting to let everyone know that we didn't fade out or have our PS3 die. Take care and until next time...GO CRAZY FOLKS, GO CRAZY!!
