Well I've given 2k11 a fair shakedown so I figure it's time to write. Not a full shakedown, since all I've really played so far is the My Player mode, but still enough to start writing about it. Initially, I didn't think I would be that impressed with My Player mode. I got the summer camp download last year and it just didn't really seem to do much for me and ultimately I never purchased 2k10.. But this year it seems different. I like how it flows for the most part. I was able to jump in and feel like I was contributing. Although I, like many, do not really like how you start out with such a low rating yet you end up being drafted in the first round, or high second round, I still felt like I was able to be quasi-productive. At least in the sense that my guy could shoot somewhat decently and get rebounds. I created myself as a 6'7" small forward and made him an all-around guy. In your experience, should you make a guy more focused on an aspect like scoring? Or is it better, as far as starting out, to make them all around so that your ratings are a bit more well rounded? I'm definitely open to input as I may make other players at various positions. I want to explore. I played small forward in high school, so I tend to gravitate towards that. One thing I noticed is that I get torched super easily and that always zaps my progress on my teammate scores. I was drafted by the Nets in the first round (their pick down around 27 or 28) and 3 games into the season I'm coming off the bench to guard Lebron James. Now, while I was happy that he didn't put in 50 points while I was guarding him, I did feel it a bit unfair, and this goes back to the low initial rating, that he was playing like I was non-existant. Maybe that's not fair, because to even the best NBA player, Lebron can make them seem non-existant. Omri Casspi is a better example. He put up about 20 points with me guarding him (I got a start due to Derrick Favors getting injured and at that point I was the 6th man) and it was a similar situation. Seems like I'm building slowly but not to the point to where I want to be or really need to be to compete in the NBA. That aside I am LOVING this experience. When I do good I feel like I really have accomplished something. Due to having a bit of a time constraint, I usually only play 5-7 minute quarters, so I'm sure that keeps my in-game productivity lower. But I am usually finishing with at least a B teammate rating, often times B+ or A- range. I had a career high 15 points last game in which I earned the player of the game for the first time. I was impressed with the post-game highlight reel they showed, especially how they highlighted most all my stats. I had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals and 3 assists and they showed pretty much all of it! I have found my player is prone to ankle twists and injuries, so hopefully I can remedy that in the future. I'm not that far into it and maybe I have too high expectations already, or I'm a tad impatient, but I would like to be at a bit higher level now. At this point I'm not sure whether I should ask for a trade. How it is now, I'm the teams 6th man. The Wizards and the Hornets both have interest in me at the moment, but I'm not sure if it would be better as far as playing on a winner. I would probably be in the same scenario with the Wizards. Decent team, I wouldn't mind playing with Arenas and John Wall either. The Hornets wouldn't be bad either, I would have CP-3 which would be cool but I think I would be battling too much for time with Peja and Trevor Ariza. Besides, who am I to ask for a trade 1/4 of the way through my first season in the league? It's just cool that these sort of things come up like they do and the freedom I can have with this game option. I plan on starting a franchise with the Bulls eventually. Not sure if I'm going to go 96 or current day. Or a fantasy draft scenario and re-draft the whole league. That will come in time, as well as the Jordan Challenge. I can see this game having much more replay value than I thought any game would ever have. Not saying it doesn't have moments where I pause the game, sit down my controller and say "seriously!?" a few times. I still have far too many moments where I get a pass and have the ball instantly stripped and times where I lose my dribbled and the AI teammates stand around waiting for me to do something. That usually results in me making a bad pass. It's lose-lose when that happens. But the gameplay works at a great pace and I never feel like I am going too fast or too slow and the controls respond well, sometimes a little too well! I may double-tap a button unknowingly or in an urgent manner and it will pick up on them. But that's not something to make me dis-like this game, quite the opposite really. I'm not a big online player, so I haven't tried that and I doubt I will really give it a shot, but the My Player and Association modes are enough for me and if they perform well all the way through, then I'll feel even better about the game than I do now. If you guys have any suggestions for helping me advance throughout, let me know because I am always open for input! Until next time, GO CRAZY FOLKS! GO CRAZY!

I've been spending more of my time on the Jordan Challenge with 2k11 but on 2k10 I played the my player mode and made a point guard. My experience was to make him good at defense first so I wouldn't get torched and then fix the rest as I went along. Finished my first season as a low 80's and ended up not playing a second season. I'm only 5 or 6 games into it on 2k11 but it seems like it follows the same model. You should notice your guy start to improve quite a bit as the season progresses.

I just posted a blog about what I thought about MyPlayer here....
http://www.operationsports.com/Drop3422/blog/
As you can see from reading that, and my subsequent comment, I too got the feeling of having teammates sitting around waiting for me, the ~51 overall rated player do something.
We seem to be a bit different type of players in some respect though. I actually enjoyed being so low rated and having to be a team player. I like the slow pace of building up. My biggest gripe was that my teammates were like drones out there, forcing me to become something I wasn't yet.
If you really enjoy the realism brought on by playcalling and strategic gameplay 2k has given us this year, I don't think there is any other position you can play as but point guard.
But make sure you check out what your attribute caps are based on your playstyle, or you could run into some troubles down the road.

I'm currently in my 2nd season, my rating is 63 i'm a 6'10 sf scorer. Just signed with the bucks after winning the title with the Jazz finals mvp.
I started with the Nets, as a rookie i asked to be traded to the jazz who were interested, you seriously notice the difference when playing with a distributing point guard like deron williams because moving to the bucks brandon jennings barely passes you have to practically stalk him to get the ball sometimes when you were open with a mismatch for the whole play, i'm also a bit angry my rating hasn't gone up after winning it all + finals mvp, 2 games in with the jazz i was a started over kirilenko but i wont lie hated the al jefferson trade in this game he is so **** compared to boozer. What i hate is getting my speed up its only at 60, my vertical is full, my 3 point is in the 90s so i can put up the points, dunk on anyone, but handles and speed are difficult and you can't really be a scorer without them, any tips on an easy way to get them better? because they would basically triple my offensive power

I can imagine. Shoot, Devin Harris did it quite a bit on the Nets too. I would inbound him the ball, he would dribble down, do some moves and then shoot. Right now I'm at 51 I think and I'm 22 games into my first season. I'm pretty happy with how I'm progressing, considering I really only have time for 5-6 minute quarters, but at the same time a little impatient hahaha.
I've heard that you can do an "exploit" on the speed. Take off the auto-save and do the dribble course drill making sure that you get gold everytime and use the speed+ to keep from using your banked up points on speed. I saw a couple videos of it on youtube. I think that one may also help with handles.
