Season 2 Preview
Season Outlook from Chesterfield Insider:
" Chesterfield now face the reality of last years Championship run as both leading scorer ST C.Lavery and leading assist man CDM J.Ryan left the club officially this week. Lavery was expected as he was on loan but the team never expected him to play at such a high level and the other part that will hurt is Chesterfield will face Lavery and his club Sheff We'd in league play this year. J.Ryan had a great season and with that Chesterfield couldn't offer him the wages Bristol City did and so the former captain will not join the club in the FL Championship but stay in League 1 with Bristol. Shock departures of ST A.Gnanduillet and LM J.Gyau do leave the team a bit thin at attacking options. Gnanduillet was supposed to be a target man and was on loan all last season so Manager Stumpf was excited to see him in person and with the parent club. J.Gyau loss means Stumpf will need to also find some speed to go along with goal scoring attackers in the transfer window. Chesterfield should be looking to bolster their attack, team speed and depth at CDM as the top priorities for the transfer window.
Chesterfield were able to bring in some reinforcements with precontract agreements with RM J.Gatt from Molde FK and RB I.Balliu from FC Arouca. The team will need its young players to gotno I to develop if they want to be very competitive. Youth players G.Botelho, S.Douglas, and C.Rios give Chesterfield hope for the future and will be loaned out to grow. Chesterfield did resign CB C.Raglan to sure up the backline. Plenty of youngsters from last year will be counted on again this year to fill voids left by departures. Chesterfield did save some money with players leaving and from winning last years League 1 Championship but they will still need to spend wisely as it takes a couple years for teams at the highest levels to be financially sound while still avoiding being relegated. There should be some hungry young talent and maybe some cheap veterans to add but don't expect any superstars Chesterfield fans as we are still building. So early rumors are Board is allowing Stumpf to only spend the max of $3.0m on a transfer fee for one player. We will need to see the moves made by end of summer window to see what chances Chesterfield have in the Championship this year."
