Wizards Analysis:
From first glance this trade looks like a pretty bad deal for the Wizards. However, Jared Sullinger recently announced he would be seeking to enter Free Agency when his contract is up next year. This coupled with the fact that he never fit into the Wizards system being a slower, low post player who doesn't like to run the floor made his trade all but certain. He never blossomed into the player the Wizards felt he could be when they selected him with the 4th Overall Pick in the 2011 draft.
Antawn Jamison and Steve Blake's return to Washington adds a much needed boost to the Wizards Bench who until now only ran 3 deep. The veteran presence of Blake and Jamison are a welcome addition to a very young Wizards team currently slotted to sneak into the Playoffs for the first time in 4 years. The trade came at a crucial point in the season as John Wall is currently playing through a Broken Wrist which will effect him for at least 2 more weeks. Despite that, Wall has played in every minute in all but 2 games so far this season. The Wizards felt they needed to give Wall a break.
The First Round pick allows the Wizards to get yet another young talented player to complete the rebuilding process. The loss of Sullinger's contract also allow the Wizards to target a top Free Agent this summer when Dwight Howard, Tyreke Evans, Blake Griffin, Steph Curry, Josh Smith, Andrew Bynum and Brandon Roy are all Free Agents. The Wizards are hoping to snag at least one of these players to slot in next to John Wall and lead the Wizards back into title contention.
Lastly, the trade allows for Yi Jianlian to get into the starting lineup after having a stellar start to the season. If he falters Jamison and Hansbrough will be there to fill in as the Wizards are very deep at the PF position.
For the Lakers and Nets, the trade helps both. The Lakers get back Jordan Farmar to start and immediately upgrade the PG position which had been filled by Steve Blake. The pick and the other 2 young players add youth to a veteran team who has a narrow window. For the Nets, Sullinger and CDR provide huge upgrades over the current PF and SF positions filled by Brandan Wright and Travis Outlaw. The Nets now have young players at every position and will be extremely dangerous for years to come.
