With the release of Gran Turismo 5 scheduled for the November we will hopefully start to get some solid answers as to just what features/modes will be included in the final product.
We already have some stats in regards to the number of cars/tracks but what I would like to know is how many of these will be available to use straight out of the box. I enjoy a good motor racing game but I don't have the time to invest in a lengthy career mode where I slowly but surely unlock cars/tracks along the way. I just want to be able to sit down & drive what I like where I like.
I'm fortunate enough to have both a PS3 & an XBOX360 & I already own Forza 3. I was both surprised & relieved when I found out that with the exception of the odd car everything was available to use in a free race in Forza. As good as Forza 3 is though I'm still tempted by GT5 but only if I have the same level of freedom granted.
History suggests that GT5 will only give limited access to content at the start with everything else to be unlocked on the way. If this is the case I will likely not bother. Maybe there will be a PSN download to buy full access. This is something I accept does happen but is morally wrong. Surely I have paid for the content of the game & I should be able to play it how I wish. After all when I buy a DVD I can watch any part of the film I like. I don't have to watch the start to be allowed to see the end.
Also what impact in the game will the licenses of NASCAR & the WRC really have. Are they merely window dressing. The strength of these licenses can surely only be truly realised in a dedicated title. After all any real NASCAR/WRC fan will be wanting all the teams/drivers/environments & level of presentation that supplements the race experience.
Undoubtedly the brilliance of the Gran Turismo series is largely born by the developers unwavering belief of how a racing game should be. Unfortunately this same tunnel vision can alienate gamers like myself who don't have the time or inclination to progress through the game in the ways the designers have intended.

Firstly. GT5 is what it is. Any true fan will enjoy the game. I love the series, and whatever they release i will be happy to own, CE Day 1. If you want your so called instant gratification, you have two options. GTPSP has 5 very fast cars (via download) and all tracks available. GT5 CE also has 5 cars, and I'm sure there will be plenty of tracks to play on from the beginning. GT5 also has garage transfer from GTPSP. These options are for people just like you. So stop complaining. If you want to play with the big dogs, then you have to earn it. Thats why they call it a game. Cheat codes and DLC have ruined the (work) ethic of gaming. Earning cars and higher racing classes is what makes GT so much fun. Secondly would be copy protection. I see this feature in more and more games. It is a pain but it also eliminates cheating. My solution is dragging my PS3 everywhere, so i can show what I have earned or created. I think they should at least do a garage save to PSP or jump drive. So you can multi-play with cars from each players own account. If you can't appreciate all the hard work put into this game, then your not paying attention. PSN-JonGrey

Why should a leisure activity such as playing video games require a work ethic?
I'm not asking for cheat codes or the ability to use the top cars instantly within a career mode but as in Forza 3 there should be a Free Race mode whereby I can drive any car on any track. The developers of Forza understood that not everybody has the amount of free time available to them to work through a lengthy career mode. All I am saying that it would be nice if the developers of GT5 took that into consideration & incorporated a mode whereby access to all cars/tracks was made available.

Well as much as you don't like this understanding of game ethic, I do. This game was made for me and all of the other fans. Not for casual racing wannabes. Forza isza forza kidza. Rewind? I want a game that pushes me to perfection. I want my car to break if I mess up. It teaches me to get it right next time. I'm not saying it wont upset me, but it will make me better. I want to earn my right to be at the top of the pile. Gran Turismo is a core game. A "Driving Simulator" packed with loads of features. Even B-Spec, which lets you manage a race instead of driving it. Great for knocking out races with minimal effort. Also GT has always had an arcade mode. In arcade mode you will have ample amounts of cars and tracks to play with. If this still isn't enough to please you, then please save us the trouble and stick with your BOX.(no offense)

GreyDintZ, I never said I don't appreciate the work ethic of PD and I'm definitely not a casual racer. I love the fact that you do have to work and the sense of achievement but the fact is that say I have mates over and we want to race around the Top Gear Test Track with.....SLS AMG's. Why should we be relegated to driving a Suzuki Swift. Also in regards to copy protection, I don't see how it could be considered "cheating". I don't give a hoot whether my friend wants to use my car collection because it doesn't affect me. You say your solution would be to carry your PS3 everywhere. Doesn't that seem like more effort than carrying a USB, if you dont want them having your save data delete it before you go.
Anyway I love GT5 and realism which is one of the many reasons I joined OS. We may disagree but I only said that in Arcade Mode (not GT Mode) that we should have access to all cars and tracks with the ability to still use cars from your career, not everyone has the ability to put a lot of time into gaming due to other commitments. It's all about options.
PS - I know this is a very late response but I felt I needed to respond.

True, True. We're all friends here. I'm just a huge fan, with a bigger mouth. Now that I have the game I can say I'm a little disappointed that some tracks are not in Arcade. And the car selection in arcade, thought varied, is a little slim. But, GT Mode is the best ever...(4 ME).

I also agree that the GT Mode is a huge slog to unlock some decent cars, let alone all of them so I hope that we get access to all cars from the beginning because playing split screen with the most basic cars isn't fun. Oh and I hope the game saves arn't copy protected because it really peeves me off when I want to show a mate my game save etc and I can't so I must start again (ex RDR).
Come On November 2nd!
