F1 2014
Posted on October 17, 2014 at 04:12 PM.
Just picked up F1 2014 for the Xbox 360.
Although my first go of this game has been very brief here are my 1st impressions.

Pros:-
Smooth Racing. Amongst the best in the genre.
Realistic AI.

Cons:-
Presentation is almost identical to F1 2013.

All in all as much as I enjoy this game it is hard to recommend a purchase for those who own F1 2013. We do have updated Driver Line-Ups & a couple of new tracks but unless you're a fan of F1 you may want to try before you buy. If you're new to the series then I urge you to take a look as there are few racing games that replicate the sport as well as this one does.

For me, the latest version of F1 201x always comes out too late. It usually comes out when the season is nearly over.

Yearly installments of sports game usually do not warrant a yearly purchase. Luckily some sports games are also released on the PC (NBA 2k, F1, Fifa). On the PC there is usually a great modding community that produces great visual and gameplay mods that fix/improves certain aspects of the game. For F1 there are mods that will update the season to the current one before the newest game comes out.

I totally agree. If there is one great differentiation between PC gaming & Console gaming it is the user modifications on offer.
F1 2014 is a great game. Is it a new game? No. In that lies the argument of annually released games.
I'm a sucker for buying each release each year but I often find myself wondering if I'm justified in doing so.

Question -- given all of the classic content available in F1 2013, if I have no idea who the drivers (and really don't care), should I just get F1 2013 as opposed to 2014?

To bigdoc85:-

2014 is slightly smoother with some improved AI but if you're more of a casual fan then picking up the cheaper 2013 game is probably the way to go. F1 2013 also has more Tracks on offer because of the Classic content.

Sounds like from next year they will be trying to get the game out earlier in the season. Must be hard though, as they don't get a look at the new cars, liveries, performance etc until a week or 2 before the first race in Melbourne each year.

Thanks, Dazraz! When you say "slightly smoother" -- what do you mean by that? Easier to control the cars?

To bigdoc85:-

Not so much easier but the response from controller input to how the car reacts feels smoother & more controlled whereas before cars would often have a tendency to oversteer. I don't use a Steering Wheel by the way only the standard 360 controller.

Still feels like I'm driving trucks instead of F1 cars. I strongly prefer Formula One Championship Edition to this.

The last f1 game I had was F1 2012. Is it worth it to get 2014 in your opinion based on that info?

SeerMagicX: I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. Every time I try to play a Codemasters F1 game, I keep going back to F1 Championship Edition -- the "feel" of that game is just totally different (and I would argue better). I have no idea who the current drivers are so the feel of the game is the only thing that matters to me.
