MADDEN 12 - A VIEW FROM A PESSIMIST.

The following theory is one born out of sheer pessimism for a Franchise that so often has fallen short of expectations. I don't know if it is an idea I truly believe or one that is even logical but I thought I would throw it out there anyway.

The threat of a lockout in the NFL, along with the possibility of the cancellation of the whole season is one concerning all Football fans. It also appears to be one that is giving EA a few headaches regarding sales of the forthcoming Madden 12.

Now I'm pretty sure EA have a number of changes & innovations in the pipeline for this years title, particularly within the Franchise mode. However will EA hold back & not include these improvements until next year. Why, you ask? Well if they truly believe sales will suffer in the wake of a cancelled/shortened season they may deem it a better business decision to introduce these big improvements in a year where the NFL is in full swing & not shrouded by a cloud of politics.

I personally don't think that Madden's sales will suffer a significant hit in the event that the NFL season is lost. In fact it may have the reverse effect. I'm not saying sales will increase but people may throw themselves into the game that much more. This could mean a bigger market for those DLC items that I'm sure EA will be putting out.

Madden 12 will be a rental for me this time around and I never thought I would have that opinion. go back and look at several of my posts where I tried to defend EA over the years, but I just cant do it anymore.

For whatever reason, EA doesnt care that they release a mediocre NFL football game year in and year out and I'm finally tired of spending top dollar for a less than average effort.

Agreed. I've been playing Madden since '93, and this is the first time ever I'm not excited about it. This year's Madden has ruined it for me. Unless they put out the game of the century next year, I'm not going to buy it, which would be a first.

While I did not buy Madden 11 like a lot of other people after reading the first three post I'm thinking "man I thought I was hard on EA" lol. But hey give them credit Madden 10 was a great game (in comparison to 09) and NCAA 11 was pretty good. But not touching franchise mode really is inexcusable.

This past fall marked the first time in 20 years that I have not purchased Madden, and the first time in 6 years I did not stand in line for one. I am totally through with Madden's lack of depth and gimmicky approach to a football game. I want a football game that caters to those who truly know and understand the game. Not a game that rewards glitch-ball (the exploitations of glitches in the game, or bad game logic).

Now I play FIFA 11 (proof EA - the evil empire - can make a great game) and NBA 2k11 (thus far, simply the best sports game made this side of glory).

I badly want a great football game, I pray I get it one day.

There is a great football game that is an absolute wonder to play.
That game is Fifa 11.

Ha ha. Being from the UK many of my friends hate 'Football' being called 'Soccer' while being equally appalled at 'American Football' being called simply 'Football'.
For reasons of clarity & bearing in mind that most members at OS are from North America I always class our game as soccer.

In regards to your point about FIFA. As much as I like FIFA & as frustrating as the flaws are in Madden, I still enjoy Madden more. This is largely due to the fact that I play both games multiplayer offline & Madden's multiplayer dynasty mode is far superior to FIFA's lame multiplayer tournaments.
