With years end almost upon us & with no more sport titles releasing until 2011 I thought it time to reflect on the years release with the best 3 & worst 3 sports/racing games of the year.
When considering my choices I like to weigh up not just the quality of the final product but also the level of expectation prior to it's release.

BEST OF 2010:-

1.) NBA 2K11 - Despite the fact that I already expected alot from 2K's basketball game & despite the fact that there was a whole load of hype leading up to it's release this game still amazes me every time I play. Simply awesome.

2.) NCAA Football 11 - Not without it's own issues, such as a frustratingly sluggish menu system, compared to the previous year this is massively improved.

3.) MLB the SHOW 10 - Although no massive changes from the previous year this remains the most polished game out there. The ability to control all teams within Franchise Mode is a welcome addition.

Wild Card - PDC Darts 2010 - Yes, I know. It's Darts. But with a few friends round & a few beers I had one hell of a crack. With multi player tournaments & an improved control system this game is a real laugh with your buddies. Plus the way I through darts when I'm drunk, it's alot safer.

WORST OF 2010:-

1.) Madden NFL 11 - Some improvements on Madden 10 but not enough to justify a full price release. The Franchise mode was practically untouched as was the comical Extra Point show. The game has so much potential. I just don't think EA are willing to invest enough to take it where it needs to go.

2.) NHL 11 - I know this will amaze some people. Don't get me wrong I like the game, but despite it's improvements I can't help but feel that this is more of a patched NHL 10 than a new game.

3.) Gran Turismo 5 - Again no bad game but considering the ridiculous delays surrounding the title it's amazing that on it's eventual release it remains flawed in many areas. Poor sound, a tired career mode, poorly designed menu systems & inconsistent visuals leave me baffled. It seems that 4 years were spent creating the spectacular visuals on the Premium cars & 6 months on the game content. Also the boast of a 1000+ cars is horribly misleading. Most cars, such as the Mazda MX5, have multiple variants. Has anyone taken the time to total up the actual number of different models? Forza is superior in every way.

I expected this when I saw the title of your BLOG, however I was hoping for something better. If your WORST of 2010 is indeed the worst in sports gaming, we as sports gamers had a great year.

If NBA 2K11 is the best game in your opinion, then why do you state that MLB 10 is the most polished and therefore why is it not #1 on your list.

I feel that like with most people that come to this site, you are catering to the majority with your picks (except for DARTs). You lose all credibility to me when you say NHL 11 is just a patch of 10. Let's not discuss the new physics engine and the new leagues they added. The EA bashing and how their current game is just a patch of previous version is just tiring.

That being said, you will have a lot of people that will agree with you and I guess that's why you made this Blog.

The Shows a better game no doubt. I was just giving NCAA the recognition based on how much it has improved.

EA bashing??? Is NCAA Football not an EA Sports title.
I made a list & gave reasons for my answers. I also stated that the list was influenced on how much improved a game was over previous versions & not just simply based on this game is better than that one.

pretty good blog. i agree with most picks like nba. i haven't played the show or gran turismo though.

I hear you. Sadly I don't see a college game in the near future. EA have got to get their NBA game sorted out while 2K, despite doing an outstanding job with College Hoops, decided not to pursue the franchise any further. We can only hope that 2K have a change of heart. The quality of NBA 2K with the depth & feel of a collegiate game sure would be something special.

Good:
Show 10 - Cant wait for 11! (and I dont even watch baseball)
NBA 2k11 - Exactly what I need. A breath of fresh NBA 2K air. Improved enough to be the best NBA 2K by far while keeping its successful core, enjoyed over numerous years, the same

Bad:
NHL 11 - not so much 'bad' as mediocre, but in hindsight I feel this game is taking a step backwards in some ways

Ugly:
NBA Elite - Anyone play the demo? nuff said

Cant really put either football game on my list becuz I havent played it enough (becuz of its mediocrity mainly in Madden) so I guess feel free to put it right under NHL
