Stars Acquire Eberle
Posted on January 23, 2014 at 07:07 PM.

On a busy Wednesday, the Dallas Stars sent D Trevor Daley, a 2013 2nd Round Draft Pick, and a 2013 5th Round Draft Pick previously acquired from Colorado to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for RW Jordan Eberle.

Eberle was drafted in the first round, 22nd overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He has 69 goals and 161 points in 202 career games spanning four seasons. He has 1 goal and 5 points this season in 7 games. Eberle is, by all means, a budding star.

What does this mean for the Dallas Stars going forward? The retool is starting to come full circle and the defensive core is starting to be revamped from the top down.

The Stars' defense has already started to change. Only a few weeks ago, Cody Franson was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Longtime player Daley, who has been with the Stars his whole career and has been a regular since the 2005-2006 season, being traded is a sign of moving forward.

Jamie Oleksiak and Brenden Dillon are already bright young prospects that have established themselves on the roster and are becoming a formidable shutdown defensive pairing. They have already combined for an impressive +9 rating and 3 points in 5 games.

The Oilers, on the other hand, have a very shaky defense that is looking for some stability that Daley is hopefully going to provide. The Oilers will have to move on without the offensive dynamo that Eberle is known for being, but with stars like Taylor Hall and budding stars like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov, it shouldn't be that hard.

In any case, Jordan Eberle is sure to look great in green.
