Week 12 Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos
It always feels good after winning on the road 2 weeks on the road and then come home and stomp the hated Raiders. This week was a strange flop, going from a passing clinic against the Falcons to a rushing clinic against the Raiders. No matter, a win is still a win.

Week 11 Denver Broncos at Atlanta Falcons
This game was the most challenging for me this season so far. It started out as a shootout in the first half, but in the second half it turned into a quest for ball control. Granted, we came out with a win, but arguably so. Were it not for the defense standing their ground on a 4th and 10 inside our own 30 yard line, we'd have lost.

Week 10 Denver Broncos at Cleveland Browns
As the snow fell in Cleveland, so did the Browns at home. On a short week for the team, a trio of passing touchdowns by Jay Cutler and a pair of rushing touchdowns by backup Mike Bell made things that much easier for the Broncos in their favorite type of weather. Our defense was stifling, even without Keith Rivers, only allowing 179 yards of total offense. I think next season, I'll actually post the statistical comparisons so everyone can see what's really going on out there. Good thing we have 10 days until the next game; enough time to rest and prepare for our next opponent: the Atlanta Falcons.

Week 9 Miami Dolphins at Denver Broncos
Storm clouds greeted the Dolphins to Invesco Field @ Mile High this week and washed away the Broncos' 3 game losing streak. A solid performance by Michael Turner and the entire O-Line, as well as some O-Line backups as they stepped in when we ran the Goal Line formation (Hey, having 9 big guys bunched together and getting a damn good push for Turner could mean more of this down the road.)

All I need now is a solid position coach to train him well and he'll be gold.

Week 7 Denver Broncos at New England Patriots
Few teams go into Gillette Stadium and expect to walk away with a win; fewer still actually achieve this feat. The Broncos were no exception as the Tom Brady and Co. hold their ground even after a late surge in Cutler's passing attack. Oddly enough, we had a lot of success with play action passes, even with the Pats D holding Michael Turner to less than 20 yards on 10 carries. I botched a call after our first touchdown thinking I bringing out Alexis Serna and the kick team for the chip-in PAT, but I ended up calling FB Daniel Graham's number on a dive designed to go straight up the middle. Of course, he tries to run it outside rather than how he's been running it all season (Side Note: Graham has been doing really well getting 3rd and 1 and some 4 and 1 or less and keeping the chains moving.). Good thing it's a bye-week coming up. After I post this I'm going to update the standings, league leaders, and team stats for Week 8.

Week 6 Jacksonville Jaguars at Denver Broncos
The 2nd loss in a row for us, but this one wasn't as tough as the one to the Bucs. The Jags beat us with their physical defense and jarred a lot of balls loose from our receiving corps right after the catch. Our ground game couldn't get going as Turner and Omon were stuffed in the backfield constantly. In the 1st half, them team looked lost but picked it up in the 2nd half. One thing that rubbed me the wrong way was a bad call on a challenge by the Jags. MJD caught a pass out on the flats, but he coughs up the ball after a Broncos defender pops him a good one and recovers it. Del Rio challenges it and wins it, but the replay clearly showed the ball was on its way out before his knee ever hit the grass. Total BS, but there's always the next game.

Week 5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Denver Broncos
A coach's first loss is always the hardest to swallow, especially when the entire team decides to quit in the 2nd half. Four, that's right 4, dropped passes by rookie receivers Limas Sweed and Dan Black leaves me wondering about a change at their position coach this off-season. Not to mention Cutler's first INT of the day was thrown right to the defender; there wasn't a man in blue for 3 whole yards. I know I said he's my Franchise QB, but questions keep coming up about both Cutler and his position coach. It's hard to keep them at bay when everyone isn't doing their job; when that happens people will think I'm not doing my job as coach. Oh and 1 more thing that REALLY PISSED ME OFF was MLB Barrett Ruud. This little SOB jumped in there and deflected 4 FREAKING PASSES!!!! HOW IS A MLB JUMPING AND REACHING 9 OR 10 FEET IN THE AIR TO DEFLECT PASSES THAT ARE CLEARLY OVER HIS HEAD?!?! C'MON MAN!!!!!

Players Resigned: Tony Bake (83/88) - 2 yr./$620K no signing bonus or incentives. Reason: He's actually done well opposite Elvis Dumervil posting 5 sacks in 5 games. At that rate (though unlikely), he'll have 17 sacks by season's end.

Post-Game Press Conference - September 14, 2008 10:45 pm

The local media is already packed into the media room at Invesco Field @ Mile High long before Coach Mason is. Chatter can be heard amongst members of the press; some about the defense, some about the offensive line. As the coach finally enters the room, cameras fiash and the reporters stand, waiting to have their questions asked. Coach Mason is still soaked in Gatorade as his team doused him in it on the sideline after his first win at home as the Head Coach. With a rather accomplished smile, he approaches the podium and clears his throat.

"Well I must say that was quite a game out there. A nail-biter at first, but we came away with another win. Before I open the floor up to questions, I have to say I am damn impressed with all the young and talented players we have either acquired through the draft, free agency, and those who managed to impress not only myself but my general manager, coordinators and position coaches during training camp to earn themselves the honor to be called a Bronco. These men are by far the best I have ever coached since my arrival in 2006, and we're only looking to get better. Now then to you're questions. Uhhh the gentleman down front; go ahead and start us off."

Reporter 1: "How did you manage to keep arguably the best running back in the NFL, LaDanian Tomlinson, from rushing for more than 50 yards?"

Coach: "I have to say LT actually broke for more yards than it shows on the stat sheets (side note: he did actually rush somewhere between 75 and 100 yds., but all the TFL's stacked up and brought that total down), but our linebackers really stepped up their game. During practice this week, we stressed stopping the run a little more than an actual pass rush. That's why Philip Rivers looked so comfortable back in the pocket."

Reporter 2:"Coach, why did the Chargers' defense get through the O-Line so easily and stop the run game and sack Cutler eight times?"

Coach: "We simply didn't plan for Cutler to be under so much pressure during practice this week. The Chargers run a 3-4 defense, and we run the 4-3, so it's hard to gameplan against a defense we simply don't run in practice. It's like trying to gameplan against Vince Young of the Titans; it's difficult since Cutler doesn't move around the pocket like Young so our defense would be at a disadvantage. Our offensive line is also composed of five players that have never played with one another, not to mention our center Samson Satele and left tackle Ryan Clady are the least experienced at their positions. It'll be a learning experience this year for everyone, myself included."

Reporter 2: "How do you plan on improving the run game then?"

Coach: "My offensive coordinator and running back coach are looking into ways to split time between Turner and rookie Xavier Omon to keep opposing defenses guessing. Also we're looking to utilize fullback Daniel Graham in short-yardage situations since he did very well near the goal line, scoring himself a touchdown. That should help keep the pressure off Cutler and keep his jersey clean."

Reporter 3: "What about the passing game on both sides of the ball? Certainly not the best day for either side, wouldn't you say so?"

Coach: "A day that Brandon Marshall isn't catching for 100 yards or Cutler isn't throwing for 300 yards really upsets the media, doesn't it? Sheesh as if winning isn't enough for you guys.... Last question."

Reporter 4: "What's the plan for next week against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints?"

Coach: "Our plan offensively is like I said earlier; try to make this a two-back system. Defensively, Brees' favorite target, Marques Colston, is going to be difficult for Champ Bailey or Nnamdi Asomugha to defend against due to his height, so we might have to double cover him from whichever side he lines up. I already have confidence we can shut down their running game, and with luck we can actually put some pressure on Brees. Now if you'll excuse me I need to get out of these wet clothes before I catch a cold."

Week 2 San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos
Did not expect to win this game, not to mention hold LaDainian Tomlinson under 100 yards on the ground. Somehow the Broncos' D pulled that off as the LB corps stepped up their game big time

Week 1 Denver Broncos at Oakland Raiders
Defense was the name of this game, as both offenses had trouble stringing anything positive together. Of course, our offense managed to score, but it was all defense for the Broncos, or rather Nnamdi Asomugha.

Here's the first official look at the 2008 Denver Broncos. With all the cuts and trades I did over the off-season, I managed to field a very young team with only 1 player over 30 (Dre' Bly: 31 years old). Somehow I also am fielding 25 rookies this year too (2 special teamers, 14 on offense, and 9 on defense). It'll be interesting to see what I can do with such raw talent in my 1st year as head coach.

Pre-season game 1 at the Houston Texans
More of a defensive game for both teams, but the Broncos' O-Line gave up 5 sacks, 4 to Mario Williams. Both Jay Cutler and fresh off the streets Omar Jacobs threw 1 INT a piece. Final Score Denver 3-Houston 10

Pre-season game 2 vs. the Dallas Cowboys
The pass defense wasn't as solid this time around, as Tony Romo alone passed for more than 200 yds. The run defense was pretty solid, holding the Cowboys to under 30 yds. Michael Turner looked better than last game in limited time. Final Score Dallas 21-Denver 10

Pre-season game 3 vs. the Green Bay Packers
There really isn't a whole lot to say after losing for the 3rd time in the pres-season. Just glad these games are to gauge talent. Final Score Green Bay 23-Denver 7
