Buffalo opened its 2009 season with a 44-23 loss at the hands of the New England Patriots in Foxboro.
The Bills (0-1) led 7-0 after the first quarter, but surrendered 20 points in the second and trailed by 10 at halftime. Vincent Wolfork was a beast for the Patriots. He intercepted a Ryan Fitzpatrick pass and returned it 91 yards for a touchdown and later in the quarter, he sacked Fitzpatrick and forced a fumble, which was recovered for a New England touchdown.
Buffalo's weak offensive line struggled to keep its quarterbacks upright. New England had four sacks on the day and numerous quarterback hurries. Fitzpatrick and Trent Edwards (who replaced Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter) weren't helped by the 6 dropped passes, either.
Wes Welker had a monster game, catching 15 balls for 164 yards and a touchdown. Randy Moss had 3 catches for 88 yards, including a 54-yard bomb from Tom Brady early in the 3rd quarter. Brady completed 67 percent of his passes (25-of-37) for 308 yards with the one touchdown and two interceptions.
