Basketball fan needs help finding NBA game
Posted on May 28, 2009 at 12:07 PM.
I just can't seem to decide on an NBA basketball for the 360. I'm usually never this wishy-washy when it comes to choosing a game, but for some reason, I can't make up my mind.

I've been a basketball fan since I was a little kid and played basketball all the way through high school and a year of Junior College.

Anyway, I grew up on Showtime, Bird, Jordan, Isiah etc. and followed the NBA and NCAA intently into the late 90's. Once MJ retired, I kind of distanced myself from the NBA and just followed college. Just this year I really started to get back to watching the NBA and am liking the turn the league has made.

The last NBA game I played was 2k7 on 360, but it was only a rental. I'm really looking for an NBA fix right now, something to carry me over until the new games drop this year -- or something to sustain me past the fall if the new releases struggle out of the gate.

I had been thinking of running with NBA 2k8 since I have College Hoops 2k8 and really like the way that game plays. But, I've heard some good things about NBA Live 09 and would be willing to give that a shot if it truly does represent NBA basketball better than 2k8 or 2k9.

I have kept NBA 2k8 because I am using my draft classes from CH 2k8. I have heard that Live was good this year though

I'm still running with the NBA 2k8/CH 2k8 combo and still have fun playing each game.

For 2k8, are there updated rosters anywhere to be found? I don't mind playing with the default ones if I have to.

I own NBA 2K9 and NBA Live 09. Since you're buying the game around the end of the season, NBA Live 365 may not matter too much to you as there will only be updates for two to four teams... so I'll just ignore the roster up****** aspect of the games. If you're more into working to get a shot having to practice with players to learn how they shoot, then NBA 2K9 is the better choice. If you want to run plays and isolate and make miraculous shots, NBA Live 09 is better. 2K9 is the more realistic of the games as shooting is a lot harder and it's more difficult to iso and take fade-aways, etc. A cool thing in Live 09 is always knowing the percentages of plays run by teams with certain players on the floor with a certain player with the ball. Personally I couldn't play NBA Live 09 for too long because i didn't find it realistic. If you practice with a team and find out all of the players' releases, then 2K9 can be a realistic and fun game. I think that 2K9 will keep you occupied for longer.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I wound up grabbing NBA 2k8 used for $14 at Gamestop. So far I am really digging the game (using Benicio10's sliders) and really like the fact that I'll be able to import draft classes from CH 2k8.

Just trying to decide on a team to use in Association. I think I may do one with default 2007-08 rosters and then do a fantasy draft team as well.

Wait until next season.

Both franchises are incredibly sub-par this year if you're looking for a game that actually resembles the sport of professional basketball.

i didnt even read your post but i know the answer to your question. NBA 2K9. 10000%. Trust me. its the best basketball game ever made. make sure you download sliders/roster though.

I was an avid EA Sports guy all the way up to last year. I played 2K8 and was hooked ever since. 2K9 is, by far, the best basketball game ever made.
