Which soccer game to get?
Posted on November 2, 2011 at 08:07 PM.
Let me start off by saying that I do not follow soccer at all. I have tremendous respect for the athletes, and when I was a sports reporter, I covered club, prep and college soccer and typically enjoyed the games. I just never got into the sport, outside of the World Cup, which I always watch (both genders).

So, why would I be asking for soccer game advice when I don't follow the sport? Well, it boils down to this. I'm fed up with playing EA's lackluster football titles and I've heard really good things about the soccer games that have been released the past couple of years. I want to play games that are fun, but also provide that replayability so that I won't be tired of the game after 1-2 weeks.

The only soccer game I've played is FIFA 09, which I owned for a few months. The game was fun, but I felt stuck between difficulties.

I'm open to all suggestions. I have a PS3 and 360, but would likely be getting this game for the PS3, if that matters at all.

Get FIFA if you play online more.

Get PES if you play offline more.

Could you elaborate a little more as to why you'd say PES for offline?

DJ,

I know I am not Weeman but to me PES is more fun to play offline than Fifa mostly because most of the teams in Fifa tend to play the same way and ou really won't much difference between teams/players for the most part.

Also, the CPU in Fifa never adjust their strategies. I know you said you aren't a big fan but you also said you covered the sport so I assume you noticed some of the strategy involved. there is a noticeable differnce in PES when teams are looking to attack or are content to sit back etc.

PES also has the liceneses for the Europa League and champions league which are integrated very well into Master League which is like fifa's career mode.

One other thing that kilss career mode for me in fifa is that there are lot of ridiculous transfers that go on in the 1st seson.

I love Ultimate team in fifa and like playing it online but can't get into career mode compared to Master League.

One other thing the AI of your team mates is a lot better in PES than in fifa although some people think it was better priort to the 1st patch for PES but there is a 2nd one coming out that may help that.

Are there sliders in PES? Ezio, thanks for the detailed reply. Would I be better served getting this year's game, or would an older version also work?

FIFA's AI is dumb. And all the teams play the same. However, neither are really issues if you're playing club games online with friends.

PES has really good offline AI, but lacks good online modes.

PES does not have sliders. Fifa does and it helps somewhat in making the game a little better.

As for which version of PES to get i would say get this years. It is alot better than the last couple versions IMO.

I have to agree with most of what is written above. PES offline is more fun. Online, it's not even a contest. Fifa has done great things with it's online modes!

Rent each and decide. If you can't decide after renting, get them both or neither.

PES Offline for sure. You will have to think, and you will enjoy playing against a dynamic, fun and challenging CPU opponent. Plus, you will play each team differently.
